🌺 Chapter 13🌺

Max >>>

For a while, none of us says anything after my car stops in front of her house. I glance at Luna, who’s staring down at her hands on her lap. I know that I shouldn’t drop her off right at her house lobby, because she wouldn’t risk her family finding out that our attires are completely different.

She really doesn’t want to make her family worried and devastated. Bless her goddamn heart.

As she turns to look at me, I can see that the tears on her face are gone, because she has wiped them away. But if her family is really looking, they will see that there’s still sadness glistening in her eyes.

“How do I look?” she asks, worry in her tone.

“Pretty,” I say.

I did not just say that.

Fůçƙ.

But that’s the first thing that has come up to my mind when I see her face again.

Crying or not crying, Luna Klein looks pretty.

Still, I must look like an idiot because that wasn’t the reason why she blurted out that question.

I mutter a silent curse as I look away to the front instead, throwing my head back against the seat, raking my fingers through my hair.

I can feel that she’s looking away too — I bet that she’s blushing. Wait, is she really blushing? I’m struggling to keep myself from looking at her again, because a part of me wants to see that blush.

Fůçƙing idiot, I curse at myself again.

“I…” she stumbles upon her words. “I guess that I’ll just go to my room really quickly before they can ask me any questions about the party.”

“Right.”

Silence falls.

Why the hell my grip on the steering wheel tightens?

“Max?” she calls, and I finally turn to her.

“Thank you for tonight,” she says in a small voice, unable to hide her shyness as she avoids my gaze. “I feel so much better after letting it all out. Thank you for being there for me. I really appreciate it. I never thought that Rory would pull such an act, and I’m sorry for dragging you into this, into this conflict with them.”

I hear pain again in her voice, and I don’t like it.

“You know that you should stop blaming yourself, don’t you?” My voice turns deadly in an instant, startling her as she meets my eyes again.

What I hate the most about this situation is how she’s been blaming herself for what happened. That’s Fůçƙing ridiculous.

“Those people are jerks and hypocrites,” I deadpan.

She stares at me like it’s the first time someone said it to her, and that makes me want to break something.

“You really think that it wasn’t my fault?” her voice slightly cracks as she whispers the question.

“Those two people are assholes, and they’re the reason why the whole school is Fůçƙing blind,” I hiss. “One did dirty to her best friend because her crush liked her best friend? That’s stupid. And the other treats you like $h|t because you said no when he asked you to be his girlfriend? That’s bullshit.”

Luna gapes at me, like she’s at a loss for words.

“I’ll see you tomorrow then?” I ask, more like challenging her, because if she ever thought of retreating after the humiliation she got tonight, I might as well ask her to burn the whole school.
Luna is silent for a while before she tears her gaze away from me and clears her throat. “Yeah, I guess so.”

She’s about to turn around to open the car door when she stops.

“Your suit coat.” She takes it off and hands it to me — that’s when I notice her eyes starting to water again. “I’m really grateful for what you did, Max. Once again, thank you.”

With that said, she steps out of the car, leaving me staring at her back as she walks to her house.

To have Luna crying hard in my arms tonight has triggered something inside me.

I could hear her emotions. I could feel her pain.

Goddammit, I could even taste her tears.
It made me want to destroy everything.
So I have no Fůçƙing idea how Tyler, who used to like her and asked her to be his girlfriend, can witness her getting bullied for a long time. That doesn’t even make any sense.

I lift my coat back to me, and the new scent that now lingers on it fills my nostrils. It’s vanilla.

And just like before, I’m now craving for cookies, in the middle of this Fůçƙing night.

LUNA🌺

My heart is restless when I walk across the hallway of my school. Holding the straps of my backpack, I can feel people’s eyes on me. I can hear whispers around me, faint and frantic.

They’re all talking about me. In a bikini. Oh God, with a hula skirt.

But what hurts me the most is that I keep remembering Mom’s happy face when she glowed me up, trying her best to make me feel pretty.

She didn’t know that it was all a trap to humiliate me in front of the whole school.
What would she feel if she knew about it? That I was the school’s clown last night. That I had always been so.

No. She will never know about it. I won’t let it happen. I won’t let them break her heart. Mine is enough.

Calm down, Luna. Calm down.

But what if someone has taken more pictures of me last night? What if they leak into the media?

I shiver, abruptly shaking my head in denial. No way. All this time, the bullies stay inside the school. It has never reached the media — no one has the guts to expose it to the media.

When I finally reach my classroom, I take a deep breath and step inside. All eyes are automatically on me. My classmates, who have been chatting with each other, stop talking as they notice me entering the classroom.

Some shoot me a degrading look, while some look at me with pity. I’m trying to shake it off, but the moment Rory’s glare land on me, a sharp pain slices my heart again.

Of course, this kind of pain won’t be gone overnight. But you’ll get over it, Luna. You’ll be healed, because you’ve decided to move on.

Slowly, I resume my steps toward my desk, and behind it, Max is already sitting. Today, he’s not surrounded by our classmates. Today, he’s alone, unbothered, his eyes locked on me as I keep walking.
His gaze is piercing and has a meaning behind it, as though he’s saying, ‘ Hold your head up high, Luna.’

I should, and I’m doing it now.

Last night had opened my eyes.

I’ve come to realize that it wasn’t my fault that I lost my best friend and the guy I adore so much, because I never meant to hurt anybody.

And I don’t deserve any of this $h|t anymore.
