Soon enough, the result for their common entrance came out and they both made it with flying colors and another amazing thing was that they were both posted in the same secondary school (Federal girls college Umuahia)
It is obvious that Rose will be boarding there because she can’t afford to be going from home.
Gift happiness knew no bound as she was happy that she would be going to boarding school instead of going from home….. She said to Rose
You see what I told you, God answers my prayers more than yours, you see how God just grant my desires of going to boarding school.
Rose looking at her friend in amusement, see your mouth, it was my prayers that God answered and not your proud prayers because I silently prayed to God in my secret to grant your desires and also to keep the both of us together by going to the same school okkkk
Wh@ťěver! Gift replied excitedly and screamed out… I can’t wait to go to boarding school because boarding school is just the same thing as been in campus and I will have my freedom there oo!!
Hmm! Gift, remember you are just eleven years ooo and your mind is full of freedom at this tender age, you better watch your back ooo because odikwa too early
Abeg make I hear jor! Rose, so you want to tell me that you don’t like freedom abi, you want to stay in this village and be going to farm every time, isn’t it? Me I don’t want that stress oo that’s why I want to vamoose from this primitive village. Gift said making a face
Rose: just be careful and let it not be what I am thinking ooo!. I will be on my way now because my mother asked me to return quick so that we will go to the farm and harvest cassava that she will sell for me
I want to harvest plenty cassava so that the sale will be big enough in using to purchase the things that I will need in going to school.
OK ooo!, thank God my father sent money for my mother last week, I hope she will buy my school things from there because I wouldn’t want to go to the farm, I don’t have that strength abeg, Gift said
Hmmm! Gift, what of if the money is not enough, and your mother ask you to go to the farm so as to get more money for your school items, won’t you go to tte farm with her? Rose asked her friend
Gift scratched her head… Mmmmm, well I will go oo but I won’t carry much load of cassava
Hmmm Gift! Gift ooo! jiri kwa ya nwayo oo!(Gift take it easy) You are still growing up. please if your mother asked you to go to the farm with her you better obey because is for your own good ooo!
Gift rolled her eyes…. I hear you madam adviser.
They both laughed, said their good byes and dispatched to their various homes
Rose really worked like an ant in helping her mother to cultivate cassava from the farm, since her father’s illness, he doesn’t do much of hard labours again, although he helped in the family in any little way he saw fit.
Rose’s mother never complained, instead she even showed her husband more love and respect by working hard in making sure that she provides food for everyone and also pray everytime for God’s total healing upon her husband.
In this way also, Rose’s mother have also thought Rose many things about life, marriage and family, and at her tender age she is full with knowledge and also that made her love and cherish her mother so much and also her father.
So after grinding the cassava, her mother paid some people for the frying the garri because it was very big and in large quantity and she can’t handle it alone with her daughter Rose
When the whole frying was done, she carried it to the next nkwo market and as God helping her, she made a lot of sales and profit from the garri more than she anticipated and the money was enough to pay for her daughters school fees and other things that she would be needing in school
Gift also helped her mother, although the cassava they cultivated was not much because Gift’ father who is a tipper driver sent money for them to use in sending Gift to school
The two friends were happy because everything they wanted and desires is going as they both anticipated.
There registrations were completed and they are living for secondary school next week. The joy joy in the tenegers hearts can’t be measured with anything, their excitements is out of the world as they both looks forward for next week.
