Chapter 36
Daphne sighed “He’s been calling you for a while now. You’re still not going to pick his call?”She asked and Kiara looked at her.

“He probably wants to ask me why I’m not at work yet and I don’t know what response to give him”Kiara muttered.
Daphne sighed.
“By the way,”Daphne suddenly said after seconds of silence “I wonder what Natasha is up to now that you know her secrets”She said “We should find more evidence to nail her down. We can’t just sit and do nothing”
“How are we going to do that?”Kiara shrugged.
“I don’t know but I’m sure we’ll figure it out”Daphne said.

Erik went to meet Emily immediately he got in.
“Mr Erik”Emily stood, adjusting her glasses. “Is… Everything okay?”She asked, seeing how restless and worried he looked.
“Kiara is still yet to arrive at the office and I’ve been trying to call her but she’s not picking her calls”Erik said
“I… Don’t think she’s coming to work today”Emily said
Erik gave her a questioning look.
“I mean… it’s past eleven am already so it’s obvious she’s not coming to work today”She said.
“She… Didn’t tell me anything about not coming to work today”Erik muttered.
“It probably skipped her mind”Emily said.
Erik looked at her.
“You…Knew she wouldn’t be coming today?”He asked.
“I…Um”Emily bit her lip wondering what response to give to him. If she answered yes, he’d want to know why Kiara didn’t come to work and she wasn’t in a position to answer that question. If she answered no, she’d feel really guilty seeing how worried he was about Kiara.
She nodded in response to his question.
Erik felt hurt that Kiara didn’t tell him.
“Do…You have any idea why?”He asked “She’s not picking her calls and I just want to be sure she’s okay”
“She’s just dealing with some… Personal stuffs. That’s…What she told me”Emily said
“Personal stuffs?”Erik muttered to himself. Hearing Emily’s response to his question made him more worried about Kiara.
“Thanks”Erik said to Emily and faked a smile before turning to leave.
Why did Kiara not inform him that she wouldn’t be coming to work today and why was she not picking his calls?
Also,what personal stuff was she dealing with? He thought they were close enough for her to share wh@ťěver was bothering her. Nevertheless,he was still worried about her and not knowing what she was dealing with increased his worries. Was she okay?
After Erik left the lab, Emily took her phone and texted Kiara.
*How are you doing? Mr Erik said he’s been calling you. You should pick his calls,he looks really worried about you*
She sighed and dropped her phone before sitting back on her chair.
Natasha dropped her bag on her desk immediately she got in and began a thorough search for the camera she believed Daphne planted in her office.
She searched her office for almost thirty minutes but didn’t find any camera.
She gritted her teeth in anger and frustration.
She tried to remember the frequent times Daphne had come into her office. The one she remembered vividly was the recent one. She also remembered seeing Daphne clutch at the door handle that day.
During the few minutes Daphne was in her office that day,she stood close to the door – the door handle specifically.
Natasha turned, facing the door. She moved closer to it and lowered her head, scanning the handle with her eyes.
A smirk crossed her lips when she found it. She detached it and dropped it on the floor before angrily smashing it with one of her heels.
“The next thing I’ll be smashing is you, Daphne” She muttered through gritted teeth.

°°TWO HOURS LATER°°
Ken paused what he was writing when someone suddenly hugged him from behind. He smiled knowing who it was.
He looked back and his eyes met Emily’s.
She smiled at him and kissed his cheek before releasing him from her hug.
He smiled at her.
“Wow,you have a lot of work to do”She said, glancing at the documents on his desk.
“Yeah, I’ve been busy all morning”He exhaled.
“Of course, you didn’t even hear or see me come into the office” She said.
“Well, I’m doing both my job and Kiara’s so…”He sighed.
“Sorry”She pouted and that made him chuckle.
“By the way,do you have any idea why Kiara didn’t come today? I’ve tried calling her but it’s not going through. She’s not responding to my texts either”
“Well,all I can say is that her reasons her personal” Emily said and sat on the empty space on his desk.
“Okay…”He muttered.
She nodded and glanced at Erik’s office.
“Mr Erik is not in his office”She said.
“Yeah, he’s in a meeting”
“Oh”She nodded slowly “So, do you need help with anything?”
“It’s fine, I’m sure you have your hands full already” He said.
“I don’t really have anything to do at the lab for today. Also, I’d like to make up for leaving last night”She said.
He chuckled”This… Is your way of making up? Helping me with my job?”
“Uh,no. But it’s still a part of it. So,what should I help with?”She asked with a smile.
Ken chuckled.
Daphne stood up from the couch she was sitting on when she heard the doorbell.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she met Erik standing in front of her after she opened the door.
“Hi”Erik gave a short smile.
“Whoa,how do you know my place?”Daphne asked, surprised.
“I came with Kiara last night”He said.
“What?” She blinked
“I was wondering if you could tell me where Kiara stays or where she is. I really need to see her. She didn’t show up for work today and she’s not picking my calls either”He said. He’s been extremely worried about her all day and couldn’t even focus at all in an all of the meetings he attended. He kept thinking about her.
Daphne sighed seeing how worried Erik looked.
“She’s here”She said “Come in”She told him
Kiara looked up from where she was sitting in the living room when she heard Daphne utter the words ‘come in’. Her eyes met with Erik’s and they widened in surprise.
“Mr Erik”She muttered.
Erik felt a bit relieved when he saw her. The state he met her in stopped him being completely relieved. She looked stressed out and depressed. He could tell from looking at her eyes alone. He felt heartbroken seeing her that way.
He walked to her.
“I’ll excuse you two”Daphne said and went into her room, casting Kiara a glance.
Erik sat beside her.
Kiara swallowed and looked away.
“Kiara”He said softly.
She bit her lip not wanting to look at him. Looking at him would only increase her guilt.
She was forced to look at him when he held her hand. Her eyes widened in surprise when he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her.
“Seeing you this way already hurts. Ignoring me will only worsen it”He said “Don’t ignore me, please”
