Chapter 32
“It’s about Kiara”She said.

“What about her?”Thomas asked dryly.
“Some days ago,she told me she wanted to quit”Natasha said
“What?Quit?”Thomas sat up,alarmed
“I had put on an act to get her back into the game”She said and he heaved a sigh of relief. “I think she’s beginning to grow a soft spot for him and we don’t want that. We have to get Erik’s wealth before she decides to quit again. I don’t think I’ll be able to stop her if she decides to quit again” Natasha said
“She’s earned his trust already?” He asked.
“I think so”
Thomas took in a deep breath.
“That means we have to swing into action then,use her to get his wealth as fast as possible before she changes her mind again” He said
Natasha nodded.
Erik and Kiara have been busy all day, going from one meeting to another and were presently just returning from the last meeting on his schedule.
Erik sat on his chair.
“That’s the last thing on your schedule”Kiara said,her eyes glued to the tablet’s screen “Since there’s nothing left to do, I’ll take my leave sir” She turned to leave
“Kiara”He called and she stopped.
He noticed she’s been avoiding his eyes whenever he tried to make eye contact with her and she’s also been acting all awkward around him.
She turned to face him and found him standing in front of her.
“Let’s talk”He said and she looked at him.
Kiara stood beside Erik behind his desk, leaning on it as they watched the sunset.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”He asked, turning to look at her “The view of the city is really nice from up here”He said.
She gave a nod and found herself smiling as she watched the beautiful scenery of the sunsetting.
“Are you uncomfortable around me because of what happened between us last night?”He asked.
She bit her lower lip and looked down.
“It’s okay to talk about it. You should talk about it if it’s making you uncomfortable or something. I’m really worried if I made you do something you didn’t want”He said sincerely,his look conveying how worried he really was.
She smiled and shook her head, looking up to face him”You… Didn’t make me do something I didn’t want”She said.
“So, you’re okay with the kiss”He said.
She nodded.
“Then why have you been acting awkward? Did I do something wrong?”
“No,I don’t know… I’m just…”She took in her lower lips,not sure of the right words to say.
They did share a kiss the previous night but did it mean a lot to him as it meant to her and even if it did and he does have feelings for her,the reason she came to work under him insanely bothered her. She was still yet to tell Natasha that she wasn’t okay about taking back her father’s wealth from Erik and really wanted to quit. She also felt it would be nice and fair if Erik knew about it. He would be shattered and hurt, that’s for sure but if anything was to happen between them,he had to know, else it would be really selfish of her and the guilt would not stop haunting her. These and many other thoughts went through her mind, making her mind restless.
“If you’re worried that I’m going to rush things between us,you don’t have to be”He said. “The kiss last night… it wasn’t just some kiss,it really means a lot to me. You mean a lot to me”He said “You should know that”He smiled at her as their eyes held “I really like you Kiara,a lot”He said, affection blazing in his eyes.
Kiara stared at him,she couldn’t deny the fact that hearing him say those words to her made her heart flutter so much that her eyes conveyed how she felt.
Erik smiled “Do…You feel the same way about me?”He asked though it was hard tell she didn’t feel the same way considering how they kissed the previous night.
Kiara kept mute, wondering if to answer his question or not. She felt the same way about him, obviously.But she knew her response would influence a lot of things and didn’t think she was ready to give him a response yet,not until she finds a way to deal with her thoughts.
“You don’t have to give me a response right now,I can wait till you’re ready”He smiled at her reassuringly “I don’t want you feeling like I’m rushing you into something you’re not ready for. No pressure,okay?”
She smiled and he returned it.
“By the way,if you have something bothering you,you can talk to me about it”He said and she looked at him inquisitively “Last night,at the lounge,you seemed completely lost in thought for a while”He said.
“Oh”She muttered,she had no idea he noticed.
“You can talk to me if you have something bothering you. I may not be as good as you in cheering people up but I’ll make sure to try my best”He said
She laughed lightly and nodded.
He chuckled and wrapped an arm around her shoulders as they kept gazing down at the city.
She smiled, feeling relaxed as his hand held her shoulders. Her worries slowly fading as she enjoyed the beautiful view of the city and the feel of his arm around her shoulders.
Daphne sat on her bed with folded legs as she attached a pair of earphones in her ears before beginning to watch the footage the camera she planted in Natasha’s office took for that day.
She skipped some parts of the video and finally settled down to watch the part where Thomas came into Natasha’s office. A smirk crossed her lips as she watched him kiss her.
“Gotcha”She muttered and continued watching the video.
She had actually expected to see something like that in the video,owing to the fact that she was aware Thomas paid a visit to Natasha at her office that day.
Her smirk slowly disappeared and a confused look appeared on her face as she listened to what Thomas and Natasha discussed in her office.
“What the hell are they talking about?”She muttered. “Using Kiara to get Erik’s wealth?”.
A slow and mellow music could be heard playing as Ken’s body pressed heatedly against Emily’s while seated on a couch. Their tongues moved in and out of each other’s wet mouths, sucking on their taste buds.
Emily’s tongue plunged deep into his mouth and he released a groan, bringing his hands down from her hair to her thighs, stroking it as they kept kissing. Her hands kept stroking his hair but later came down to his chest,pressing against it.
Their warm breaths brushed each other’s faces and the atmosphere got more intense.
Ken’s lips left Emily’s and he brought it to her face, trailing kisses down to her neck making her release a Mõ@ɲ. She folded her lips as he kept kissing her neck and she released another Mõ@ɲ as pleasure rushed through her. Her hands tugged at his shirt while one of his hands scaled up her thigh, going beneath her top.
Emily loosened the first button on his shirt and was about to move to the second one when her phone rang.
She looked back at it.
“Ken…I have to take this”She breathed and his lips slowly left her neck. He sat up and bit his lip
“Sorry”She folded her lips knowing how frustrated he must be that the call had to interrupt them. She felt it too but she had to pick the call after seeing that the caller was Daphne.
“Hey”She said,after picking up.
“Emily”Daphne said “I finally got it”She said.
“What?”She asked.
Ken rested his elbows on his knees, rubbing the nape of his neck as he watched Emily.
“I have the footage of Natasha and Thomas kissing”
“Really?”
“Yeah”
“Is Kiara aware yet?”She asked.
“No but I plan on calling her after we end our call”Daphne said.
“Okay. Do…you have something else you want to tell me?”
“Um,yeah. I watched the whole footage and I found something else,I don’t know… it’s confusing and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Do you think you can come over to my place so we can watch the footage together?” Daphne asked.
“Right now?”Emily asked and slowly turned to glance at Ken.
“Yeah, please it’s really serious and urgent. I don’t think it’s something I can handle alone and I just… Please come over”She pleaded.
“I’ll be on my way”Emily said.
Ken brought his hand down from his neck and raised his eyelids to look at Emily when he heard her sentence.
“Thank you” Daphne said before disconnecting the call.
Emily slowly brought down her phone and folded her lips as she turned to face Ken.
“I…Have to go”She muttered.
“Are you being serious right now?”He asked in disbelief.
“I’m sorry, it’s really important”She pouted and he sighed frustratedly.
“I’ll make it up to you,I promise”She said and kissed his lips before picking her bag.
Ken sighed as he watched her leave.
Kiara turned to face Erik. His hand was still around her shoulders as they stared down the brightly lit city.
“I feel thirsty”She muttered and he turned to look at her “Should we grab a drink?”She asked.
He smiled.
“Let’s go”He held her hand. “By the way,you have to start being specific when you talk about having drinks”He said.
She giggled. “As long as you know the drink I’m talking about,then there’s no need to be specific”
She said
He chuckled.
Just when they were about to get to the door, Kiara’s phone rang. She brought it out of her bag.
“It’s Daphne”She said, glancing at Erik before picking the call.
“Daphne”She said.
“You busy?”Daphne’s voice sounded at the other end.
“Um…Why do you ask?”
“There’s something I have to speak to you about, it’s really urgent. Can you come over to my place? Like right now?”She said in an urgent manner.
Kiara looked at Erik.
“Um,sure”Kiara said and hung up the call, wondering what Daphne had to tell her that was so urgent.
“Is everything okay?”Erik asked seeing the look on her face.
“Um…”She shook her head “I don’t think we’ll be able to go out for drinks again”She said
“Why?”
“I have to go see Daphne”She said.
“Okay, we’ll have the drinks next time then”Erik said.
She nodded and smiled.
“Come on, I’ll give you a ride to the place you’re going”He said.
“It’s okay,you don’t have to”She said. “I don’t want to be a bother”
“I’m not complaining”He said.
She chuckled.
Emily removed the earphone in her ear after watching the footage and turned to look at Daphne who was seated beside her.
“Using Kiara to get Mr Erik’s wealth?”She asked, confused,her eyes widening a bit. “What do they mean by that?”
“Now that I think about it, Kiara told me Natasha was the one who helped her get a job at Tech Builders”Daphne said “Could it be that the reason she got the job for Kiara was so she could use her to get Erik’s wealth?”
“Why would she want Mr Erik’s wealth?”Emily asked.
“Natasha does look like a greedy person to me”Daphne shrugged.
“Wait, hold on…”Emily shook her head “Even if this is true,is Kiara aware that the reason her stepmom got her a job at Tech Builders was so she could get Mr Erik’s wealth?”

“Here”Kiara said to Erik immediately he got to the front of Daphne’s apartment and he halted his car.
She smiled at him “Thank you”
He responded with a smile.
She came out of his car and walked to the stairs that led to the door of Daphne’s apartment. She waved at him and he did the same also before turning his car.
He urged her to go in when he saw her still standing.
She turned and walked up the stairs, giving him a glance before entering the apartment.
Erik smiled and drove away after he watched her enter the apartment.
“Daphne?”Kiara called when she didn’t see Daphne in the living room after she got in. She went into Daphne’s room and met her seated on her bed with Emily.
They both turned to look at her immediately she entered.
“Emily”Kiara called, surprised to see her.
“Hi”Emily muttered, waving slightly.
“Hi…”Kiara said slowly, raising a brow.
Daphne stood and went to meet Kiara.
“You… Wanted to see me urgently”Kiara said “Is everything okay? Are you okay?”She asked worriedly.
“I’m fine…I think”She muttered and later shook her head.
Kiara looked at her, confused.
“There’s something you need to see”Daphne said, rubbing her palms together.
