Chapter 19
“Mr Erik” Lex said and greeted him.
Emily looked up from what she was doing when she saw Erik standing in front of Lex.
“Care to explain why you treated my assistant that way yesterday?”Erik asked, glaring at him
Lex had a confused look on his face.
“I… Don’t understand…”
“Pulling her against her will and spilling coffee on her” Erik said
Lex understood immediately.
“Oh,that…”
“Explain why you did that”
“I didn’t mean to do that. She’s my friend and I wouldn’t do that to her on purpose sir”Lex said
“Friend?”He raised his brow
Lex nodded.
“Well, friend or not,I don’t appreciate seeing my assistant getting treated that way”Erik said fiercely.
“I’m sorry sir”He apologized.
Erik left the lab, ignoring Lex’s apology.

°°FEW HOURS LATER°°
“Hey”Kiara said to Ken “I’m going out for lunch”She said.
“Alone?”Ken asked
“No…With Emily actually. I’m gonna head down to the lab and ask if she’s interested in having lunch with me”
“I already had plans to ask her”Ken said
“Really?”She asked
Ken nodded
“Well,the more the merrier, right?”She smiled.
“Uh…I actually want to have lunch with her alone”Ken said,hoping it sounded as subtle as he intended.
Kiara raised her brow, slowly sitting back down.
She sensed something in Ken’s sentence.
“Alone?”She asked
“What’s with the look?”Ken asked
“Nothing,just wondering why you want to have lunch with Emily alone”
“As a friend. Just like you intended to do”He said
“I don’t think so”She shook her head “And,I didn’t know you and Emily are now friends”She said
“We are”
“And,you already like her?”She asked, grinning “Or wait”She said, remembering something “Is she the best friend you were talking about,the one who works here?”
Ken slowly nodded.
“Should have guessed”She muttered “So,you guys are back to being friends?”
“Yeah,we went out together yesterday”He smiled.
“Really, that’s great”She smiled. “Wait,but…You still have feelings for her right?”
“It doesn’t matter,she still doesn’t feel the same way about me”
“If it doesn’t matter,why do you wish to have lunch with her alone?”
Ken bit his lower lip
“I… I’m hoping things would change”He said with a sad smile.
“Hope is a good thing”Kiara said
Ken chuckled.
She smiled.
“So,you gonna let me have lunch with her alone?” He asked
“Sorry but there’s something important I have to speak to her about”Kiara stood
“Kiara”Ken called as she left the office.
“Sorry,bye”She smiled, leaving the office.
Ken sighed.
“Hey”Kiara appeared in front of Emily.
“Hey”Emily smiled, looking up to face Kiara.
“You’re not too busy,are you?”Kiara asked
“No, I’m not”She answered
“So,lunch?”
“Yeah,sure”Emily nodded
Kiara glanced at Lex as she left the lab with Emily.
He seemed to be busy.
“We’re eating lunch alone this time around, unike last time”Emily said
Kiara chuckled.
“So,uhm…”Kiara swallowed the food in her mouth and brought out her pink jotter from her bag.
“What?”Emily asked.
“I want you take a look at this for me , please”Kiara stretched out her jotter to Emily
“Okay”Emily smiled,collecting it.
She opened the jotter and began examining the pages one after the other.
Kiara watched Emily, biting her lip nervously and anticipating her response.
“Wow”Emily muttered “This is… Incredible. How did you come up with this. It’s amazing”She smiled, obviously impressed and amazed by what was in Kiara’s jotter. “A device that helps in recalling memories in a way that feels like you’re reliving it. It’s…Wow”She faced Kiara.
“Are you saying it’s good because you don’t want to hurt my feelings or because you actually like it and also think it’s something that can be created?”
Emily giggled.
“I’m not saying that so I won’t hurt your feelings. I think your idea is really amazing and Yeah, it’s something that can be created but… It’s a really complex device. It has to deal with the brain and your theories are really good and helpful but it’s going to take more than one scientific mind to work on this”
“Yeah,of course”She nodded
“Trust me ,if I could work on this alone, I’d be happy to create this. It’s an amazing device that’s really going to help people”
Kiara smiled.
“How did you come up with the idea? And your theories…Did you study a science related field or something?”
“I…”Kiara looked down at her fingers and chuckled awkwardly “I studied neuroscience for two years but later changed my major to economics”
“Why?”
“Um…My stepmom owns a supermarket and I wanted to assist her with the calculations,books and…Well,stuffs like that”
Emily stared at Kiara,shock obvious in her eyes.
“And your stepmom didn’t bother to stop you from changing your major? I mean with the theories I’ve seen in your jotter and your idea, it’s obvious that you have a brilliant mind,a scientific mind and neuroscience, that’s one of the most amazing fileds in science. Your stepmom should have stopped you from changing your major” Emily said, expressing her disappointment.
Kiara bit her lip
“You… Didn’t have any regrets after changing your major?”Emily asked.
Kiara swallowed, keeping mute.
She later heaved and looked up at Emily.
“That was a really big sacrifice you made Kiara. I can’t imagine myself doing something like that. Your stepmom must be proud to have someone like you in her life”Emily shook her head.
Kiara gave a short smile
“So, about your idea,are you interested in having it created?”Emily asked
“If it’s possible”
“It is”Emily nodded
“Yeah,I don’t think anyone asides you will be interested in helping me creating it. Like you said, it’s going to take more than one scientific mind to work on it besides I don’t have what it takes in terms of money,a lab and other things needed to create it”
“But you have a boss who does”Emily said
Kiara gave a thought to what Emily said but later shook her head.
“He’s probably going to think my idea is stupid”
“Your idea is not stupid. Any one with a brilliant scientific mind should be able to see that and Mr Erik is someone with a brilliant scientific mind”
“Really?”
“Yeah, everyone in and out of the lab knows that. He’s my role model”Emily said “You should show it to him”She smiled
“Um… I’ll try”Kiara said “Thanks”She smiled.
Emily responded with a smile.
“Hey,uh…Will you be busy during the weekend?” Kiara asked
“Why do you ask?”
“My best friend and I will be going out to check this amazing tower and I was wondering if you’d like to join us”
“Sure”Emily smiled.
Kiara walked in with her bag hung over her shoulder.
Erik looked up at her.
“Going somewhere?”He asked
“Yeah”She nodded “Home”
“Not yet”He stood.
“What?”
“You can’t go home just yet”He said “I said I was going to let you know how you’ll make up for what happened last night”
“Um…Yeah”She nodded.
“You remembered.Good” He said “Let’s go”
“Sir?”She muttered.
“No questions,come with me”He said.

Kiara looked through the car windows as the driver drove in.
“Wh…Why are we at your house?”She looked back at Erik who was seated in the back seat.
He raised his eye lids, glancing at her before coming out of the car
“You’ll find out”He said
She came out also and followed him in.
Nathan smiled and greeted when he saw Erik come into the sitting room. He also saw Kiara with him and he smiled at her.
She bowed slightly.
“Is there anything you’d like me to do?”Nathan asked Erik.
Erik shook his head.
Nathan nodded before leaving.
“Why am I here exactly?”Kiara asked Erik.
He pointed at his bunny.
“Name it”He said
“Wait,you brought me all the way here to name your bunny?”Kiara asked,looking astonished.
“You might as well stay for dinner. You promised Nathan last week you’d have dinner here”
“I didn’t promise,I only told him I’d have…”
“It’s okay if you don’t want to have dinner here. You can just name my bunny and leave afterwards”He said.
Kiara glanced at the bunny.
“So,if I name him,that means I’ve made up for last night right?”She asked
He nodded.
She moved closer to the cage and smiled as she brought the bunny out of the cage.
“Let’s see,what name should I give to this cute little guy”She made a pouty face at the rabbit while stroking it’s back.
Erik tucked his hands in his pockets, watching her.
“How about…”She took in her lips “Snowball” She said “Aw,you like it, don’t you?”She said to the rabbit, grinning and combing the rabbit’s head with her fingers.
“That’s it? Snowball”Erik said
“You don’t like it?”Kiara asked “Well,it doesn’t matter as long as Snowball loves his new name”
“You don’t know that”
“Look, he’s twitching his nose. Rabbits do that only when they’re happy or excited”She said, showing Erik the rabbit’s face.
Erik saw the the rabbit’s nose was twitching like Kiara said.
Kiara’s phone rang.
“Here,I have to take a call”Kiara said, carefully placing the rabbit on Erik’s hands.
Erik took the rabbit from her and the moment his hands brushed with Kiara’s,he felt this jolt in his body and also felt the hairs along the back of his neck.
It was a new and weird but exciting feeling.
