While they slept that night, Theodora’s body temperature rose. Even at the cold weather, she was sweating.
She shifted the blanket away from her body, yet, nothing seem to be working.
She tried waking Raymond up, he was deep in sleep that he couldn’t hear her voice.
Stepping out of the bed, she laid on the cold titled floor, though at first, it seemed to be helping matters but then, it felt like oven to her skin.
She stood up, walking into the bathroom to ease herself. She stood before the small mirror just above the sink, staring at her image who was glaring back at her.
From the mirror, she saw dark clouds covering the sky and a figure stood beside her. Before she could take an action, the figure had grab her neck.
She tried to scream but it was so difficult, like he was only focusing his grip on her vocal cord. Her face was red, her veins became visible on her face.
“Open your eyes.” It says to her. “I said open your eyes. ” Yelled the figure.
She gasped, surprise to see herself on the floor. She returned back to the room, Raymond was snoring soundly and she didn’t want to bother him.
And what happened back there, in the bathroom, was the most horrific thing that has ever happened to her.
She went to the mirror beside the wardrobe, checking on her neck. There were three lines on her neck, all were shinning red in colour.
She took her cream, massaging it on her neck. And while she kept doing that, the same figure appeared.
Out of fear, she jerked up from the stool, shifting away from the mirror. The stool fell to the ground, she thought it would wake Raymond up but, he was sleeping like nothing was ever happening.
Theodora jumped on the bed, turning towards Raymond’s direction.
“Open your eyes! Open your eyes!!” The voice kept repeating in her head.
“Hey, Raymond, wake up.” She whispered. “Raymond, wake up. There is someone in the room with us.” She tapped him several times but he wasn’t responding. “Raymond, please wake up.”
“Open your eyes. Open… Your… Eyes.”
“What do you want from me?!!” She screamed. “Who are you, and what do you want?”
” I don’t need anything from you, Mrs Van Amstel.”
“It’s Rutherford now.” She corrected.
“My apologies, Mrs Rutherford. I do not need anything from you, I only want you to see what is ahead of us. ”
” What are you talking about? ” She asked.
” There are evil things ahead of you and your husband. And this will be done by the very person you all least expect. But will assure you this, the earlier you do as I am about to say, the safer I can guarantee your life. ”
” Hold on a sec, before we go into this future and evil what-so-ever, let me ask you a question. Who are you?” She asked.
” I don’t have a name, I am just a free living body. I move around the planet, I see things far behind and things yet to come. I am telling you this, Mrs Rutherford, yours is at stake too. ”
” Okay. First, you don’t have a name and second… I mean, what the f_ck is this all about?”
“Just give me the chance to show you what I am talking about. If you don’t mind looking at the mirror.”
” Great. You wanna strangle me again? Why should I believe you? ”
” Because, what I am about to show you is the truth and no one else will show you this, trust me.”
After a brief moment of thought, Theodora stepped out of the bed, walking to the mirror. She stood before it.
“Close your eyes, then open it again.” She did as she was told. She closed her eyes, and when she opened it, she vanished out of the room.
She was in the fortress but in a different dimension. Everywhere was dark, only the candle lights reflected a part of it.
“Why is everywhere quiet?” She asked.
“It’s always quiet by this time of the night. Don’t worry, keep watching. ”
They kept walking from rooms to rooms. Theodora decided they should go to her room which they did.
She was asleep with Raymond, his hand holding her against the cold weather. She smiled.
“It doesn’t look like there’s an evil about to happen.” She said.
“That’s because it’s about to happen now. ”
From where they stood, they heard the loud sound of the entrance door bang open. ” What was that?” She asked.
“The evil.” He replied.
One step after the other, the figure approached close. The sound of her heels echoed the building.
Theodora’s eyes were fixed at the direction the sound was coming from, and to her greatest surprise, to her very surprise, it was Sophie.
She appeared on a new look, different from those time when she serve as a maid.
She was putting on a long red gown, her nails were the same shades of red, likewise her lips too. And she was coming directly to their room.
“Stop!” Theodora yanked.
“She can’t hear you.” He said.
They followed her into the room. She went to Raymond, plucking a strand of his hair. A cup appeared in her hand with a liquid contained in it.
She drops the hair into it, stirring it, then she drank it all.
“What is she doing?” Theodora asked, confused at the weird act.
” She is trying to get connected to him. They will share the same pains and hurt, and the bond between you and him will automatically fade away. This is the first evil to come.”
” Are there more? “She asked again.
” Yes. Do you wish to see them?” He asked back.
” Yes.”
” Follow me.” She followed him to a different room, there Sophie was with Caro.
They were making portions to poison Theodora’s meal. After they were done with the mixture, they gave it to a maid who poured it into her drink.
Theodora drank the wine, at that instant, she collapsed.
“This is the second evil.”
“I need to see more of the evil.” She insisted.
“I wish I can, Mrs Rutherford, but if I should show you, you may feel too reluctant to fight against this evils. Now you have seen the first two, it’s up to you to find out what the other evils are. At first, Kaleb was never the enemy, Sophie was. This time, she is yours to handle. ”
” Wait, how am I supposed to handle her? She is a witch and I am a normal human, that doesn’t match. ”
” What you are is deep inside you. You just have to awake it before this gets too late. ”
” How am I supposed to do that? ”
” Once you go back to earth, wait for the time to turn five, when it does, I’ll visit you again. Together, we’ll discover what you are.”
” Okay, 5 o’clock.”
