” How was school today?” He asked, as soon as they left the school.
” It was good.” He looked at her, the statement wasn’t a complete on to him. ” And Mr Anderson did talk to everyone about it.”
He returns his gaze back to the steering.
” You didn’t buy this car today, did you?” She asked.
” I didn’t.” He replied, his gaze fixed to the steering wheel.
” How come I haven’t seen it before?” She asked again.
” Because I have never driven it since the day I bought it. That was six months ago. ”
” Why didn’t you use it this morning? ”
He looked at her. ” Never thought of using it today either. ”
” So why the change of mind? ”
” I’ll be leaving outside the state after I drop you off. ”
” What are you doing outside the state?”
” I’ll explain it all to you when I come back.” He said.
” How long…” She pause, ” how long is it gonna take? ” She asked.
” Two days or three. Not really sure yet.”
Hanley was quiet, she didn’t talk anymore. She moved her gaze, staring out of the window.
When he got to the mansion, he halted the car. Hanley sat still, no word, she was just quiet.
” What if… what if it takes too long?” She asked, breaking the awkward silence.
He made no comment.
” Answer me, what if it takes too long?” She repeated.
” I’ll give you a call. ”
