CHAPTER 25 & 26 — THE DARKEST HOUR.

✯✯✯✯✯✯✯✯✯

Time fly’s fast, in the past two days —alot of people were preparing to execute their plans. Daniel had successfully moved the Dumont’s into their house as hostages. Lucille had stood in front of her mirror daily, practicing on how to confidently confess her feelings to Dominique.

Dominique had been preparing for the Gala, determined to make an expression and even though he doesn’t want to admit it — he was eager to see Lucille again. His family were happy for him including Ashely — who he had spoken to days ago.

It did not take long for Friday to arrive. Dominique had arrived at her apartment by 5:50 to pick her up. He is dressed in a Louis Vuitton brown suit, his black hair slicked back. The door shut as Lucille steps out — wearing a matching Flora gown with a deep plunging neckline, holding a brown clutch purse, her blonde hair curled and her makeup as always – simple.

“Wow…” He breaths out. Lucille has never failed to take his breath away. She looked drop dead gorgeous. “Beautiful.” He takes a hold of her hand and kisses it like a gentleman.

She blushes, “thank you. And you don’t look so bad yourself.” Her eyes take in his appearance, he looks dashing. Her heart skipped a beat, gulping down her nervousness. She wasn’t going to back out, she had to tell him how she feels.

“Shall we?” He asks, she nods and he leads her into the Black Bugatti Chiron. Soon, they reach the hall. The hall is decorated to perfection, white chandeliers hanging on the ceiling, the golden tiles sparkled, neatly – arranged set tables, a well laid out buffet table, waiters and waitresses serving. The billionaires laughed and mingled with each other, their dates either hanging on their arm – smiling or took a sit at their table.

Dominique assuring smile calms Lucille’s nerves. “C’mon let’s go.” He smiles and leads the way.

“Dominique! It’s good to see you.” A handsome young man comes forward, he and Dominique share a firm handshake.

“Alex… Likewise.” He replies.

Alex’s turns his attention to Lucille, admiring her beauty. “And you are?”

“Lucille.” She replies.

“Beautiful name for a beautiful woman.” He takes her hand and kisses it slowly before letting go. Dominique tightens his hold on her feeling the need to remove Alex’s hand.

“Thank you.” She responds plainly. Feeling uncomfortable, she excuses herself to the table leaving Dominique alone.

Dominique watches Lucille as she walks to an empty table – waving to him once she takes her seat. “Ah…the cold hearted billionaire finally finds love again.” Alex exclaims.

He clears his throat, “I don’t know what your talking about.”

“The way you look at her…it is written all over your face. Plus, you almost tried to strangle me because I touched her.” Alex smirks.

Dominique gaze wanders to Lucille again, his heart filled with a warmth as he looked at her. Maybe. . . Alex is right, he is in love with her but that didn’t mean it still didn’t scare him.

He turns his attention back to Alex, “so how’s business…?” He changes the topic quickly.

“Good. Although, am looking to form more connections this year.” For a moment, Alex’s tone held a tinge of jealousy. Dominique is the number one made billionaire and everyone is looking to form a connection with him. He had been lucky enough for Dominique to consider him a good friend but not as a business partner.

“Good luck Alex.” He smirks and walks away but couldn’t shake off — a longing stare.

Lucille smiles at him, “so, what did you talk about?” She asks as he takes his seat opposite to her.

“Nothing much. Just business…”

“Oh…” She replies.

“So. . .are you enjoying yourself?”

“Of course. The Gala is amazing, the food is very delicious.” She says in a hushed tone.

“Am glad your enjoying it.”

“Umm… Dominique, I need to tell you something important–”

Unfortunately, the announcer’s booming voice interrupts her. “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome you all to this occasion. I hope you all are having a wonderful time. Tonight, we are going to kick things up a notch so please everyone report to the dance floor!”

Immediately, the music begins to play — it’s classical with a dance beat. “C’mon let’s go!” Dominique pulls her to the middle of the floor. One by one everyone joins with their respective dates moving lightly to the beat.

They take a waltz stand, “one. two. three. four.” Dominique counts his steps. Lucille smiles and begins to move to the beat as well.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight and spin!

“Ah…so you can dance.” Dominique teases.

“See, I told you.” She smirks. They dance for some minutes and the music ends with a bang. The billionaires step back clapping and chuckling.

They respectively move back to their tables, “that was fun!” She exclaims.

“I enjoyed every second of it.” He replies and the both laugh. “You wanted to the tell me something important. . .what is it?” He questions.

Now is the perfect time to let Dominique know about her feelings but she couldn’t shake off her nerves. “Y-yes, just a moment. I’ll be right back.” She excuses herself. Before, she can even step far — a waitress slams into her staining her dress with some food.

The audience gasp.

“Oh, my goodness. Am so sorry!” She says and immediately bends down to pick up the spilled contents.

“Are you okay?” Dominique rushes to her side.

“Yes, am fine.” She smiles assuring and proceeds to help the waitress pick up the spilled food. For a moment, the waitress expresses shock. “No ma’am, it’s okay!” She says in panic.

“Yes, Lucille you don’t have to do that…” But, she pays no heed to him and only stands up when all the food is put back on the tray.

“It’s okay, it was just an accident.” She smiles.

“Thank you ma’am.” The waitress says and walks away quickly.

“You didn’t have to do that…”

“Of course I do. There is no harm in helping others.” She smiles and Dominique gives her a short kiss.

“Thank goodness, it was food. It’ll clean right off.” She says, her gaze wanders and she spots a balcony. “Umm… Dominique, let’s meet at the balcony.” She points to it.

“Why?”

“There, I’ll tell you everything.” He nods in agreement and she walks off to the restroom.

The waitress stares at Lucille’s retreating back in guilt. She thought the lady was just another snub at the Gala but she had helped her instead of insulting or humiliating her like the rest would’ve done. She wanted to run after her and inform her that the collision between them was not an accident…
