CHAPTER TWO: CHLOE’S DECISION
Thanatos sit down, Asmodeus swirl the glass of wine in his hands ” my questions still remain same ” his intensified gaze didn’t waver from my direction ” you have been smiling since you return from that theater, it’s been a day and that smirk haven’t left your face ”
” Is none of your business Asmodeus” I look at him ” shouldn’t you find the woman you wish to bed tonight?”
” They is no hurry ” he grin ” the sun is still bright out there ” leaning close to me, I frown ” haven’t I told you that the pursuit of women is best at night?”
” You have ” I nod, like a little child learning from his elder brother ” but since you’re the sin of lust, I don’t think I can compare myself with you ”
” you still amaze me ” he fold his hands ” why aren’t you interested in women ” silence engulf us and he suddenly stood up, covering his body with his hands ” don’t tell me….”
” You’re wrong!!!” I growl the moment what he said ring in my head ” why will I be interested in you?”
” Then tell me ” he scoffed ” why were you smirking to my direction”
” Someone asked me to marry her ” I smile ” it’s funny, I have absolutely no idea what she even looks like, she wore a mask ” sipping from my wine glass, I look around in the empty bar, strange things also happened, why will a demon suddenly appear.
I know for a fact that she smelled nice, her scent calls for the dead or demons to feed upon, but strangely she still lives.
” Did you say yes?”
I frown ” why will I get married to a human ”
Asmodeus sit down and look at me with full interest ” which means you said No?”
” On the contrary” I sip my wine ” I said I will think about it ”
” You have to be joking ” he laugh ” she must have spike your interest”
” Indeed ” I nod ” she is someone I wish to engage on another conversation with ” lifting my hand, I stare at my wrist watch “I have to meet the king today”
” Are you interested in my participation?”
” No ” standing to my feet, I smile ” after returning from the battle, he mentioned something about rewarding me ”
” What could it be?”
” Must be money ” moving out, I step into the carriage and sit still while it moves, looking at my hands… I frown, it must be more plausible that Chloe have been seeing demons all her life, she didn’t act surprised or scared.
Instead she stood still but what intrigued me mostly was the fact that she pretended not to see anything or the fact that she is still alive. If she can see demons, it only means that she will be able to see my true form.
Being with people like that only brings problems ” we have arrived” the couch man mumble and I didn’t hesitate to walk out of the carriage, heading into the palace, I look right and right, maids remain still while staring at me like am some god…. Which I am.
Approaching the throne room, the announcer called out my name, the door open and I walk in, standing right at the middle…..my men which I didn’t arrive with, quickly walk in and bow their head to the king but I remain standing.
Fighting battles for humans is a generous act of mine but bowing to one? It’s something I will never do ” Gerald ” I called his name and everyone gasp ” you asked for my audience?”
” Of course milord ” Gerald smiled ” it is still a honor that you serve under me ”
” I find it pleasurable ”
” I was hoping you will be delighted to live in the palace ” I furrow my brows and he speak on ” just for three days ”
” Could that be the reward you speak of?”
” It is not ” he straightforward his hand to the left and I follow his finger, my gaze stop at three ladies standing right there, smiling ” those are my daughter’s, you can pick either of them and wed”
” Wed?” I mumble ” you wish for me to marry your daughter?”
” Of course ”
My eyes stop at the one with red curly hair, blue eyes and perfect completion ” you ” I smile ” what’s your name?” I watch how she face glow up.
” Freya milord ” she bow her head and I look at the one standing at the very end, dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin…but something seem daring with her, the way she looks at me.
Ignoring her, I avert my gaze back to the king ” are you asking for marriage hoping I won’t disappoint you or betray you?”
” You catch on to things rather quick ” he chuckle ” so tell me, which of them will you wish to hold on to ”
” Marriage is out of the question Gerald” I smile ” will you be satisfied if I select one of them to be my mistress, good for bed?” I watch anger flick in the king’s eyes ” that was a joke ” he suddenly relax but before I could say more, that delicious smell hit me again, compelling. I look at her.
” You ” her gaze meet mine ” what’s your name?”
I watch her part her lips to speak but the king beat her to it ” do not pay heed to her, she is nothing but problem” he mumble ” she already have a fiance ”
I smile ” is that so ” that scent, I want more from where it came more ” I will think about your offer, I mean ….Freya is a very beautiful lady ”
” Does that mean you will stay here?” Gerald look at me, hope in his eyes ” for three days, to think about everything ”
” Indeed ” I smile ” if that is what you wish ”
Chloe chuckle slightly at her physician remark ” you mean I will only be to take over if I remain alive ”
” Why do you say rude words” Herald frown ” I know they is no cure for your heart problem but that doesn’t mean they won’t be” I stare at him, his hair almost grey, he stood still why pounding the herds slowly ” they is cure for everything, you just need to find it ”
” That is why I learn from you ” smiling, I look around the ward ” you’re the only one that knows about my condition and I also have to assist to find the cure”
” Your highness ” he look at me ” you should learn how to live, ever since you were born, you have been alone”
” Yes sir ” I smile and stood up, looking outside I notice that the moon already shining, after meeting Thanatos in the throne room today, I did expect him to take interest in freya, I mean she is the most beautiful.
Am pretty sure he will marry her.
Clenching my hands, I close my eyes, it’s not fair…I saw him first, he is the only person that can help change my future, why didn’t he take interest in me? Am I that ugly?
I have always had anger issues, standing up I walk out of the physician ward, my eyes looking everywhere for Thanatos, without any care in the word, I fasten my steps towards the men quarters.
The maids gasp out of surprise, of course, a princess shouldn’t walk alone, that too late at night heading towards the men quarters. but they is a question I have to ask, it keeps eating me inside.
Finally, I found at him, standing under a huge tree, his hands place at his back while he talk to Freya, upon seeing that I heed behind a building and frown, why am I hiding, what sin did I commit that I have to hide for?
Regardless of that thought, I didn’t move…oh no, instead I stare at them, how Freya blushes and how he smile, displaying those dimples of his. Blinking, I watch him move his right hand and touch her hair, I couldn’t make meaning of what he is saying, I just couldn’t hear it.
He drop his hands and Freya step back, proving she is about leave…. Seeing as that is my signal, I move out of the corner to join them ” Chloe ” Freya look at me ” why are you here ?”
” Chloe?” Thanatos look at me ” interesting”
” She is my sister” Freya smile, acting all nice with him ” Chloe, come…we should go ” she try touching my hand but I step back.
” Stop acting like you are fond of me ” I frown ” I will like to talk to Thanatos ” I looked at him, he didn’t smile but when Freya look his way, he grace her with his smile, she shot me glares before walking away.
” What do I owe this visit ” he finally smile ” you look rather angry ”
I walk closer to his direction ” why did you pick Freya and not me?” He look at me, confused at my outburst ” what? Am not beautiful enough for you?”
” Lady ” he step back, lifting his hands up in surrender ” Freya just caught my attention nothing more, with your outburst, someone might think that you’re my woman”
” Huh ” I frown
” Don’t come to me with such thoughts, that too….late at night” he lower his hands and that smiling face ease ” one will think you wish to bed me ” he step closer and lean close, our face two inches apart ” or is that true?”
My face heat up due to how close he is ” that’s preposterous” I force the words out ” who will want to bed someone like you?” I fight out ” rumors have it that you’re gay ”
” Gay ” he smile, that’s one thing about him, why does he always smile? Isn’t that something fishy ” will you like me to prove myself? ” I furrow my brows and he complete his sentence ” to you though, I won’t mind it”
” Unbelievable” i step back and he furrow his brows, that smile disappear once more.
” Tell me something ” he step close ” you sing don’t you, Chloe? ” I look at him as he touch my hair, his gaze not leaving mine, why is it that he doesn’t always smile when he is looking at me ” and to top it up, you smell so good” his hands move to my neck ” good enough for demons to haunt you?” He look somewhat, hungry.
A hand hold mine, pulling me back, I look sideway and stare at gill ” forgive me milord ” he bow his head ” she is my fiancee, I will appreciate it, if you refrain from touching her ”
” Indeed ” that smile is back to his face ” I keep forgetting she is taken ” gill and Thanatos eyes meet, he is back to looking like some kind man ” you should be careful, you might end up dead ” before Gill could say another word, Thanatos turn around and left.
He loves smiling but from the looks of things, he also find it tiring? ” Chloe ” Gill look at me, hands on my shoulder” are you okay? Why are you here?” I look at him, he must have already bought me from father ” Chloe ”
” Don’t touch me ” I slap his hands off and look at Thanatos who didn’t even turn around once, but it’s certain, he knows that demons haunt me, he might actually be able to save me.
Within these three days, I plan to make him find me interesting, too interesting to let go of.
