CHAPTER SIXTEEN: THE MARRIAGE
Watching the door close shut, Chloe lay right back on the bed, eyes closed and thought move back to her dream, what was I begging for so bad? Who was the king that kept refusing me.
Is that even me? Am sure I haven’t step out of this empire right from birth, so what are this dreams, it could mean nothing, I might just have dreamt about it because I want Thanatos to be with me so bad.
It means nothing, I have some other purpose in life, not just to be his bride. Sitting up, I rise to my feet, this morning, I plan on having a smooth marriage and no body will ruin that.
Walking out of his room, I bump into xilber, he look so frustrated and somewhat angry ” Chloe ” our eyes meet and I step back ” don’t tell me you’re actually planning on marrying him ”
” Lord xilber ”
” Do you actually think he care about you?” Maids are starting to gather, listening in to our conversation ” I am a king, I offered for you to be my very first queen ”
” Do you love me?”
” Chloe ”
” Answer me lord xilber”
” He has Freya ” xilber growl, running his hands through his hair ” he has the beautiful one so why do he need you? You’re average, I mean ” he clear his throat ” you should be thankful I choose you ”
” Oh ” faking a laughter, I fold my hands ” is this the reason for all your outburst? That I wasn’t grateful enough?’
” You know that’s not what I mean ”
” Should I bow down while rejecting your offer? Kneel? Or better yet ” I step closer ” lay on the floor ”
” Chloe ” he hold my hand ” you belong to me, I had you first, this is how the world work, you can’t sleep with more than one person unless you’re a hoe”
” Milord ” I frown ” you might be a king but I will appreciate it if you watch the way you talk to me ” smiling I look at him ” excuse me, I have a wedding to attend and guess what ” I move closer ” it’s my marriage to someone else, not you ” not waiting for his response, I walk out of his way, back to my quarters, on my way, I look around, hoping to see Thanatos but it’s like he vanish into thin air.
Fear swell in me, what if he doesn’t show up in the marriage hall? What if he ditch me because I kiss him, that will be horrible, how am I supposed to overcome that?
Unlike my fears, the hour for the marriage came, Thanatos was right there waiting for me, we said our vows, got married and through out the whole ceremony, he didn’t look my way, not even once.
He even asked them to cut out the ” kiss your bride” part
” Staying here won’t be necessary” he said to my father ” the carriage is already prepared to take me back to the south empire ”
I stood behind him, shocked with all these that is happening, I did not expect my marriage to go this way? And why the cold shoulder? How do I break the ice
” This should be your marriage night ” my father mumble ” traveling today will bring rumors ”
” I see no reason to wait behind for some marriage ritual ” Thanatos growl ” is not like Chloe is pure ” I clench my hands at that statement, me losing my virginity isn’t supposed to be a big deal.
I mean boys do it, so why do everybody hold it against me? Am I less Worthy now? If someone touch me, does that mean I hold no more value? Do that mean am useless?
Why do I have to take in all these nonsense?
” Lord Thanatos, I understand that you have issues to address back in your mansion ” father smile ” I will let you go ”
” Milord ” Freya move close to the gate with few of her maids and belongings ” am ready ”
” Then let’s head o…..” Before Thanatos could complete his sentence, I hold his hand, stopping him and he finally look at me in the eyes.
” I can’t travel in this attire, I need to change and grab some of my clothes ”
He pull his hands back and nod ” do as you wish Chloe ” he look back to my father and continue his conversation, stepping back I stare at the grin on freya face, it’s obvious that he is treating me harshly.
Going back to my chamber, I changed to a simple black dress, packed few of my belongings, the important ones and hurry to catch up with them but before I could meet up, they already left, leaving a single carriage behind for me….a note on it telling me where his mansion is, he has to be kidding.
” How am I supposed to go to the south empire alone!!!!!” Yelling, I suddenly wish I can cry so that someone will take pity on me but tears, that son of a Ɓîtçh won’t fall off my eyes, no matter what.
Sitting in the carriage, the coachman begin the journey and I look outside the window to stare at the beautiful flowers, trees and the sun which is going to sleep, today wasn’t what I expected.
Thanatos coldness, the rushed marriage, him not smiling once at me, him traveling with Freya, all these will make someone think that he h@ťě them.
Could it be that he h@ťě me? He h@ťě me because I kiss him without permission? I should be the one hating him, he keeps saying rude things to me, questioning my dignity.
I don’t care anymore, he can go to hell for all I care ” your highness” the coachman mumble ” the road upfront seem damaged, we will have to cut to the other pattern ”
” Okay ” I reply and close my eyes, is not like I have any experience with this sort of trav…….I stop talking as the carriage turn upside down, everything happened in a very slow motion, I could literally feel my body lift up gradually with the carriage and then down to the floor with speed that it hurts.
It keeps rolling, my head hit different part of the carriage wood before finally stopping, blood drop from my head , my vision becoming blurry, looking outside the window I stare at Thanatos, he stood right there looking at me with cold eyes, hands place in his pocket…he didn’t even move close to me.
I straightforward my hand ” go to hell ” those were the words that I force out, with my middle finger out, I rather die than let him near me, I told him I need to be close to him but he keeps pushing me away, if am not close what’s the aim of this marriage?
” don’t touch me ” simply because I was angry, I was in deep pain but I will prefer it if someone else do the saving.
Not this bastard of a husband.
Thanatos remain seated in the carriage while Freya sat next to him ” milord” her annoying voice once again came out ” will you mind me engaging you in one of my…..” Lifting my hands, I cut her off.
” Enough Freya, I will really appreciate calmness”
“I know, I shouldn’t say this but do you think Chloe will come safely? I mean she is all alone and am her sister ” I stare at Freya, trying to act like a good elder sister.
” She will be fine ”
” You know demons always attack her for no reason, since birth ” Freya shake her head ” I heard she is cursed, those demons always ki|| those around her ”
” Hmmm”
” Milord, I know I shouldn’t be saying this but I need you to be safe ” she hold my hand ” you’re my husband ” why didn’t I think of this? Chloe staying all alone will bring demons her way, they might not ki|| her but the coachman, he will die.
” Stop the carriage” I mumble, got off it and quickly vanish into thin air only to appear when the unthinkable already happened to her, her face look bloody, will she die?
Her dying mean me being free from a lot of things.
” Go to hell ” her voice so tiny but one can see how angry she is ” don’t touch me ” and then her eyes close shut, I look ahead to notice the coachman body scattered, a demon hand work, they must have been angry that they couldn’t approach her for awhile now.
My gaze move back to Chloe, touching her means staining my clothes with blood, I don’t want that ” you make me do the unthinkable ” I lean close and drag her out of the carriage, into my arms ” silly girl ” her eyes open just a little.
” Don’t touch me ” she force the words out, even in this state, she still acts this stiff, I wonder why she isn’t crying, I know it must have hurt a little, she is a woman so why are they no tears?
She keeps surprising me, making me curious to see those tears, what will make her cry for hours? That I will like to find out. Even if no one else is permission to hurt her, I can do that.
After all, she is my wife.
