Chapter nineteen
Claire was heading to the rest room when she was cornered by Ben.
“Let’s talk Claire”he said taking her hand and pulling her to the next floor not even giving her a chance to give him a reply.
They got to next floor and he still held her by her hand
“My hand”Claire said and he let go starring at her like he was just seeing her for the first time.
“Is it really true? Are you engaged to Andrew Black?”He asked and she nodded finding it strange that he brought her out here just to ask that question.
“Why?”Ben asked
“Why would I get engaged to someone if its not for love”Claire said
“But you don’t love him! I can only think of two reasons and that’s because he has something against you or because you have been entrance by his money”Ben said
“How can you say that? You of all people should know that money doesn’t matter to me. Your two reasons are wrong and you should stop now before I get more angry at you”Claire said as she turned to leave but stopped half way.
“I heard you broke up with Cindy. Am sorry about that”Claire said and turned to leave but he held her back.
“Don’t you know the real reason why i broke up with Cindy?”he asked
“I don’t and i suppose you will tell me”Claire replied starring at him
“Of course, I will tell you cause it all has to do with you”he said
“I left her and that’s all because I realise that it’s you I love, have fallen in love with you Claire”he said to Claire who didn’t know what to say.
“I never knew how you felt towards me, I thought you just thought of me as an older brother and so I never looked your way but when the people who worked for me told me how besotted you were, I realised that I was such a fool for not noticing your love. Am sorry Claire, I love you now and if you come back to me, I….I will cherish you more than anything In this world”he said pulling Claire into his arms.
“You don’t love Andrew. Its me you love and now that I feel the same way, let’s give each other a chance”He added waiting for her response.
If he had told her this Two weeks ago, she would have been the most happiest woman on earth but she was no longer inlove with him.
She was about telling him that when Ben was pulled away from her.
He landed on the floor due to the punch Andrew gave him.
“How dare you try to seduce my fiancee?”Andrew asked looking very murderous
“Your fiancee, don’t make me laugh, Claire is not your fiancee, I don’t know what you did to get her to accept to this farce but one thing is sure, she is not in love with you”Ben said and Andrew walked towards him to give him another punch when Claire ran to him pulling him back
“Please Andrew! “She said and he stopped to stare at her.
“Claire doesn’t love you, she only loves me and no matter what you do she will keep on loving me “Ben said trying to provoke Andrew.
“Don’t listen to him Andrew, let’s just leave, please”Claire begged not wanting things to escalate.
He took her by her hand and pulled her to their table to take their things and out to the where his car was parked.
“Andrew we have got to….”
“You didn’t give him an answer Claire”He said cutting her off
“What?”
“I saw him taking you upstairs and I followed you two, at first I wanted to go there and stop him but stopped to know what your answer to him will be but you didn’t say a thing and yet you keep on telling me you are over him. Are you toying with me?”Andrew asked
“Toying with you? I never toyed with you Andrew and if you hadn’t meddled, you would have heard my answer “Claire said annoyed by his behaviour.
“And what would your answer be? That you love him and want him in your life, common Claire! I wasn’t born yesterday”He said not trusting her words.
“What the hell is wrong with you. This is all a pretence and……”
“Precisely. Its because it’s a pretence that am acting this way, I won’t let you get away with it if you make a fool out of me with that imbecile”Andrew lashed out cutting her off.
“You know what? I don’t think this will work”Claire said suddenly
“What do you mean?”He replied
“You Clearly dont trust me and if we are to make this work you have to trust me which you will never do. I suggest we end this deal here”Claire said
“You don’t mean that! ”
“Watch me leave. I can’t certainly be of help to someone who wouldn’t trust me”She added and began to walk off
“Claire! If you leave, it’s over”Andrew said after her and she stopped to give him a look before hailing a taxi which was passing by.
He was really angry, angry to even go after her.
“To hell with it all”He muttered as he got into his car driving himself home.
THE NEXT DAY
“In my opinion, your the one at fault”Mark said after listening to Andrew explanation.
“Didn’t you listen to what I said?”Andrew asked obviously still angry
“I did and your the one at fault “Mark said again
“How am I at fault?”
“You didn’t let her finish, if you had at least listen to her answer, you would then have acted on it. You know Ben is now in love with her, he will try to do things to make her his and you doing that yesterday paved the way for him”Mark said
“I know that you hardly trust people apart from me but you should also trust Claire, she might not be in love with you now but if you keep on trying her heart will be yours. She only asked you to trust her, you should do that if you don’t want to lose her for good” Mark added.
“I never thought of things in that perspective”Andrew admitted
“Now that you know, you should go to her or else that Chef will get her before you even do”Mark suggested.
“She wouldn’t want to see me, after all I told her that If she leave it’s over for us”Andrew said
“That’s all left to you to solve, you have to get her back”Mark replied
“I know what to do and your help is needed in achieving it”Andrew said suddenly already hatching up the plan in his head.
It was Claire day off and she decided to visit some of her friends just to stop thinking about Andrew.
If he didn’t trust her then there was no use continuing with the pretence.
She was almost to her house when a car parked in front of her.
Two men in black got out of the car and came towards her
“Are you miss Claire Maxwell?”one of them asked
” Yes I am and who are you?”She asked
“We are sorry but you will have to come with us”they said as they both pulled her into the car.
“Let go of me! Let me go! Grandma! grandma!”She kept on yelling as they drove off with her in the car.
She tried to leave but was stopped when they put something in her nose.
Claire found herself losing consciousness as she fell into the arms of one of the men.
She woke up to find herself in a room, a room which had a buzzing noise, she thought as she sat up in the bed.
Why didn’t she dream of this, if she had ,she would have tried to prevent it from happening.
Here she was in an unfamiliar room,locked up in a room which kept on having a loud noise.
She was thinking of what to do when the door opened and Andrew walked in.
“Your awake?”he said cheerfully
“What are you doing here? “She asked surprised to see him
“Can’t you guess?”he asked in return
“It was you! You told those goons to come take me. Why?”Claire yelled at him figuring out his appearance in all of this.
“If I had come to you you wouldn’t have agreed because of what happened last night”He replied
“Agreed to what?”
“Coming to Australia with me”He replied
“You said it was over if I left and besides where is this place and what’s that noise?” Claire Asked
“I regret it and that is why have decided you are going to Australia with me today, the noise you keep on hearing is the Sound that comes out of a private jet, right now we are flying to Australia”He finished telling her with a grin.
