Minutes later, I finally arrived home and met Andrew in the house drinking garri which was heavily mixed with kuli-kuli and groundnuts. Seeing how he was enjoying himself, I decided to let him finish taking the garri first cause I don’t know how he’d react when I tell him about the pregnancy.
Andrew who had noticed that I hadn’t said a word to him offered me some of his garri but I looked away ignoring him.

Andrew ➡ Is something wrong?

Annabelle ➡ Just finish eating first.
.
Andrew ➡ That can wait. Did something happen?
.
Annabelle ➡ I’m pregnant!

Andrew ➡ Oh that’s…. Wait! You’re pregnant!?

Annabelle ➡ That’s what I said.

In that moment, I watched Andrew very closely to see how he’d react. He was shocked of course but then he surprised me when he rushed towards me kissing my stomach.

Andrew ➡ This is unbelievable. I can’t believe it. You’re carrying my child. This is good news.

Annabelle ➡ What!? You’re happy about this?

Andrew ➡ Yes. Finally, we can be together. You and I. With my child in your womb, you can finally dump that husband of yours and start a new life with me.

Annabelle ➡ You’re crazy! What gave you the idea that I wanted a life with you.

Andrew ➡ What!? Then, what’s the point of all the times we spent together?

Annabelle ➡ Tell me Andrew! Do you have a job? Look at this house! It’s a $h|t hole. How in the world as you suppose to take care of me and the baby if you don’t have a job? Tell me.

Andrew never said anything, In fact he was hurt by what I said. In that moment, He stood up on his feet and stood in front of me. I was afraid that he might try to do something to me but I was wrong. What came after that left me completely speechless.

Andrew ➡ You selfish b-tch. What do you take me for? Do you think I’m still that young kid you left years ago. I love you Annabelle but I see that all you care about is money! All I am to you is a pleasure tool you use to satisfy your s-xual needs. I work my b-tt off every day trying to find a way to use the money you gave me. With that amount of cash in my account, I could have disappeared and started a new life somewhere else but I stayed because I love you.
Tell me Anna, how many men do you know follow women like you despite knowing they’re cheats. Don’t think I’ve forgotten the kind of woman that you are. Don’t take my feelings for granted. For your information, I’ve found a way to use the money you gave me. There’s a friend of mine in Abuja who deals in exporting cars from overseas. I’ll be going there tomorrow to meet him. Andrew ➡ Because your husband wouldn’t give you one and I know deep down you want one. I know what we did was wrong but at least you get to be a mother. Your husband is a monster and he doesn’t deserve you. I don’t even see why you’re still married to him. Divorce the fool and marry me, I may not be rich as him but I’ll definitely take care of you.

Andrew’s intention was sincere and true. I really wanted to be his but desires for the easy life had overtaken my thoughts. I never gave Andrew my answer but I made up my mind to keep the baby. For the rest of the day, I laid in bed thinking about how I was going to hide the baby from Odili incase he came back. The idiot is going to away for a year and I have just 9 months to deliver Andrew’s child.
After a while of hard thought, I figured out how to solve my problem. When and if I give birth successfully, I’ll have to keep the baby with my parents. Of course I will not disclose the real father to them, I’ll just have to lie to them and tell them that Odili is the father for the time being and once that’s out of the way, I’ll have to stash and leak enough money from Odili’s hands then I’ll dump and divorce the b-stard and finally be with Andrew . The plan may have a little chance of success but it’s worth the shot.
At around 8: 00pm, I decided to go and visit my parents and spend some time there. Andrew and I haven’t talked since our spat in the afternoon and he had left the house hours ago leaving me all alone.
After a while, I arrived at my parent’s house where I saw Michael and Justina having a heated conversation. Although I couldn’t hear what was going on but from the way the two were going at it, I had a feeling that something was wrong.
Immediately both Michael and Justina saw me, they both dispersed ending their drama right there and then.

Annabelle ➡ Mike, what’s going on between you and my cousin?

Michael ➡ Abeg e no concern you.

Annabelle ➡ Of course it does. Justina is my cousin. Tell me what’s going on between the 2 of you or I’ll let my father know you’re crossing the boundaries of your work.

Michael ➡ Which boundary?

Annabelle ➡ You know the boundary I’m talking about. The kind of boundary that exempts you from having any kind of relationship with your boss’s relation.

Realizing that I knew what was going on between him and Justina, Michael gave in and told me why he was arguing with Justina.

Mike ➡ See ehn.. No tell your papa o but your cousin don carry belle. Na my pikin dey inside her womb.

Annabelle ➡ JESUS!! Justina is pregnant for you?

Mike ➡ Yes and she wan abort am. I no go agree. My mama dey tease me say I go give am grandpikin and now God don give me one. Either make she marry me or deliver the child make I take care of the pikin myself. The kind back pain I get wet I knack your cousin no be joke, every night she go dey call me say make I jolly her toto. All that hard work wet I do no go waste o.

Annabelle ➡ Abeg shut up. How can yiu possibly take care of the child?

Michael ➡ No dey underestimate me o. I get house, I get land, plenty land for sale. I no be small person. This work wet I dey do na just for fun. The money wet I dey get from your papa ma the money I dey use to dey spend on your cousin. That belle she must give birth to am. She no go deny me my pikin o. Better go tell am or I go make sure say she never get happiness for this life.

Annabelle ➡ Are you thr_@tening my cousin? Are you mad?

Michael ➡ I dey mad!? Try me make you see. I no dey joke o. I want my harvest, I don take time plant well well. Na me do the heavy work, I must to get the fruit of my labor.

After that statement, Michael went back to his post fuming with anger. Seeing the rage in his eyes, I knew he wasn’t kidding about his thr_@ts. This is one of the reasons why people shouldn’t socialize themselves with this village types, they’re always up to no good and they always like to have things go their way. As for that Justina, what was she thinking? Of all the men to sleep with, she chose this village champion. Michael is quite cute but seriously he’s not her class. Well, it’s time for her to take the responsibility of her mistakes or else she might have an unhappy future.
After chatting with Michael, I went straight into the house where I met Justina crying silently. She was walking around the living room putting both her hands on the side of her waist while staring at the ceiling. As soon as she noticed my presence, she wiped her eyes and tried to fake a smile.

Justina ➡ Good evening..

Annabelle ➡ Evening. What’s going on between you and Michael?

Justina ➡ Oh.. The stupid idiot messed up in the errand I sent him on.

Annabelle ➡ Stop lying Justina. That same idiot told me everything.

Justina ➡ (silence)

Annabelle ➡ That’s right, he told me everything. What were you thinking Justina?

Justina ➡ I…got…carried away.

Annabelle ➡ Yes you did and now you’re pregnant!

Justina ➡ What should I do? I can’t have this baby. I have a life to live. I’m not ready to be a mother yet.

Annabelle ➡ You should have thought of that before spreading your legs for that gateman. Now you’ll have to take responsibility of your recklessness.

Justina ➡ I won’t. I’m going to abort this pregnancy.

Annabelle ➡ Are you insane? What if you die or something happens to your organs during the procedure? Abortion is a risk that no woman should take. It’s not worth it. If you parents find out that you died because of an unwanted pregnancy, they’ll never forgive you.

Annabelle ➡ Marry the stupid idiot.

Justina ➡ Michael.

Annabelle ➡ You see! Do you know that he has a house and acres of land?

Justina ➡ Do you actually believe that he does?

Annabelle ➡ If he spends his allowance on you then it must be true. Either way, it’s better than aborting this pregnancy which you’re not sure you’re going to survive. You had no problem letting that idiot make love to you, I’m sure you can manage as his wife.

Justina said nothing after that, she just stood up and went to upstairs to her room. I on the other hand sat on the couch and began to think of my own plight. Andrew’s baby was inside me and it’s going to take a miracle for my plan to work.
After a while, my parents returned and we all began to chat. My father who was the one doing most of the talking began to ask when I was going to return back to my husband’s house.

Annabelle ➡ Yes sir?

Nnamdi ➡ If you’re here in Kaduna for a while now. Don’t you think it’s time to return to your husband’s house?

Annabelle ➡ I will. I will.
.
Nnamdi ➡ Staying away for this long might make people think that you’ve been divorced. You have to get back to Lagos. I think you’ve stayed here long enough.

Annabelle ➡ Are you sending me away?
.
Nnamdi ➡ No.. I’m merely doing what is right. Go back to Lagos before the week runs out.

Annabelle ➡ Sure. I will do so but just so you know, I’ll be calling it quits with Odili soon.

Chiomq ➡ Why on earth would you do that?

Annabelle ➡ Because I have the right to. He’s a failure both as a husband and as a man. I can’t stand this marriage anymore.

Nnamdi ➡ You’re overreacting!! Why are you bringing this all of a sudden? Who put you up to this.

Annabelle ➡ Nobody this is my choice.

Chioma ➡ My daughter please try and talk to your husband eh? See if you can both work it out.

Annabelle ➡ I have and it hasn’t yielded any result.

Nnamdi ➡ I’ll have to talk to Odili. I don’t know what’s going on between you 2 but I don’t like this.

Annabelle ➡ Talking to him won’t change anything and I won’t change my mind either.

Nnamdi ➡ This is ridiculous. If I remembered clearly you’re the one who brought this man into this house and you eager to marry him now you’re avoiding and trying to separate from him. What’s the meaning of this?

Annabelle ➡ You’re right father but it seems that I’ve chosen the wrong man.
.
Chioma ➡ Have you tried talking to his family members?
.
Annabelle ➡ Which family members!? I haven’t heard or set my eyes on them since the wedding.

Nnamdi ➡ Come to think of it. I’ve tried asking Odili numerous times to let us visit his relatives but he always says that they’re not in the country.

Chioma ➡ What strange relatives we have!

Annabelle ➡ Either way, I don’t care about them. What I care about is my happiness. I just told you what might happen in the future if Odili keeps treating me like a statue.

Nnamdi ➡ Just try to work it out, will you?

Annabelle ➡ (sighs) Good night father. Mother, see you around.
.
After saying goodbyes to my parents, I left them and went out of the house heading straight back to Andrew. As I got there, I saw him on the bed awake and silent. The poor darling was staring at the ceiling when I walked in. After taking off my shoes, I lay on the bed right next to him trying to put my hands on his chest. I realized that I said something awful to him this afternoon and i wanted to apologize but before I could touch Andrew, he pushed my hand away gently and turned his back on me.

Andrew ➡ Just leave me alone Anna. I’m not in the mood. Good night.
