Chapter-Thirty-one
They came over to the garden
“Do you think that was the best idea to leave Baek-Hyun with her”? Byung-ho said as they kept strolling around the garden.
” They need to talk, I –she pauses and suddenly feels dizzy, Byung-ho holds her hand quickly.
“Are you ok?”. he asked as he walked her to the seat nearby.
” Yeah, I just felt dizzy”. she felt her tummy”My tummy hurt”. she said as she winced in pain.
“What do you want me to do? Should I take you inside?”. he asked tensely.
” Yeah, I guess so”.
“Ok, try and stand up”. he helped her up but she couldn’t stand properly, so he picked her up and rushed inside, he called the attention of the nurse who took them to another ward, and he was asked to step out. he stood outside the door waiting impatiently for their report, then Mrs.I-jun caught sight of him and moved to him to see how worried he looked.
” Byung-ho, what are you doing here?”. she asked.
“Am waiting for the nurse, because Ji-ho was rushed in there a while ago”.he said.
” What? What happened?”. she asked looking tense, then, Mr. Dae-Jung and the rest came over.
“Is there a problem, what are you two doing here?” Mr. Dae-Jung asked.
“Is there a problem?” Su-ho asked staring at their faces then the doctor came out.
“Doctor, how is she?”. Mrs.I-jun asked.
“She is fine, is nothing to worry about”. he said.
” What’s wrong with my sister?”Si-u asked confusedly
“Is nothing to worry about, abdominal or tummy pain is common during pregnancy, in the first trimester of week zero to twelve it is common to feel mild pains in the lower tummy area. These are caused by hormonal changes and by the child’s growth”. he explained to them.
” Can we see her now?”Mrs.I-jun asked.
“Yeah, sure”. he said and they rushed in except Mr.Dae-Jung who left with the doctor to his office.” please sit”. he offered and they sat down, then he brought out a brown envelope and then gave it to him.”that is the DNA test result.” he said. although Mr.I-jun persuaded the doctor to get a DNA test on Ji-ho’s child in other to be sure if the child belonged to his son or not. Mr.Dae-Jung sighed as he brought out the results, he was surprised to know the child belonged to his son.
“Thank you, doctor, can we keep this between us”.
” Sure no problem”.
“Thank you”. he stood up to leave and placed the results inside his suit jacket before he left the office.
Ha-jun and Baek-Hyun were still trying to solve things.
“Are you trying to cut off our wedding because of her?”. Ha-jun said angrily.
” Will you stop! I know you are hurt, am sorry I can’t push through with this wedding”. he said and Ha-jun was surprised.” I only pushed through with the wedding because I thought I could move on, but I couldn’t”.
“Never! I will not allow this to happen”. she yelled angrily.
Ji-ho sat upright on the bed.
” Will you stop worrying about me, am fine”. she said trying to ease their tension.
“We know, we–” Su-ho got interrupted.
“I know, please can we keep this away from Baek-Hyun, not a word to him, we all know he just recovering, I don’t want anything that will stress him”. she said.
” Sure, if that is what you want”. Mrs.I-jun said smiling. “Anyway, let me go and check on him” ” She stood up to leave.
” I will come with you”. Chan-yeol said and he left with her along with Byung-ho. They came out and saw two police inspectors walk in.
“Inspector, what a surprise to see you here”. Mrs.I-jun said as they exchanged pleasantries.
” Yes, we came here due to the task you gave us about your son’s accident”. he said.
“ok, did you find the person involved?” she asked.
“Yes, we caught the culprit and he confessed and — he suddenly got interrupted by the sound of broken glasses in Baek-Hyun Ward, quickly they rushed in to see Ha-jun with a broken piece of glass thr_@tening to cut her wrist with it if any of them come closer.
” Ha-jun, what are you doing?”Mrs.I-jun asked as Ji-ho and the rest walked in due to the noise and were surprised to see police inspectors in the room.
“Ha-jun put that down”. Baek-Hyun warned.
” No, I will cut myself with this if any of you come any closer”. she thr_@tened.
“You don’t have to do anything stupid my dear because you are under arrest”. the inspector said and they turned to him quickly including Ha-jun.
” Under arrest? Why?”.Byung-ho asked.
“Because she is involved in the accident that happened to your son,” he said and they went surprised.”yes, according to the culprit’s confession he was hired by Miss Ha-jun to hit Ji-ho but your son got hit instead in other to save her”. he added.
“What?” Ji-ho said.
“Ha-jun, how could you do that?! ” Baek-Hyun yelled at her.
“That’s not true, h-he lied against me”. she sputtered.
” Of course not, we had all the evidence pointing against you, so, you have the right to remain silent, or wh@ťěver, you do or say will be used against you in a court of law”. he said and the other inspector moved to her and took the glass from her forcefully.
“You are going to pay for this”. Si-u snapped at her.
” How could you think of something like that, what if I wasn’t there to save her she could have lost the baby or even her life, are you that heartless?”Baek-Hyun said rudely to her.
“Am sorry, I did it because of you”. she sobbed.
” Really? Can you hear yourself talk”. he said.
“You are a beast, you deserve to be jailed for this”. Su-ho said to her angrily.
” Am sorry, I don’t want to go to jail, I was bitter by anger, please” ” She knelt down and begged seriously.” please Baek-Hyun, don’t let them take me away”. she sobbed and Baek-Hyun turned his face away from her.” please!”
“What do you say, Mr. Baek-Hyun, do you want to press charges?” the inspector asked, and Baek-Hyun sighed.
“Son, you just have to let it go, at least you were there on time to save her and your child, she has already asked for forgiveness”. Mrs. I-jun said.
” your mom is right, just let it go”. Ji-ho said.
“eonni, how can you plead on her behalf, she did something terrible and she must be punished for it”. Si-u said.
” I know, we don’t pay evil with evil”. Ji-ho said.
“What she did was worse than evil, it was an attempted murder”. Si-u said.
” ok fine, I will only let this go on one condition”. Baek-Hyun said staring hard at her.” you will stay far away from Ji-ho and me if you try anything stupid again, I won’t be this merciful to you”. he said. “and one last thing, the engagement between us is canceled”. he added and turned to the officer. ” inspectors, thank you very much for your help and concern, I won’t be pressing any charges”. he said.
“Okay, we will take our leave now, you all have a nice day”. he said and they left. Ha-jun was still stiff on her knees feeling ashamed of what she had done.
Later in the day, Ha-jun got home, and her parents scolded her.
” That was inhuman, what if he had died?”Mr.Dong-Geun quarrels.
“I can’t believe you try to commit murder all in the name of man, is this how I raised you? Our image and reputation could have been ruined by your carelessness”. Mrs.Do-Yun yelled at her. ” Or have you forgotten that your father is the president of this country, do you know what would have happened to his political career if Baek-Hyun didn’t drop the charges against you?”.
“Am sorry, I did know what came over me, please forgive me”. she sobs.
” I am so disappointed in you”.
Mr.Dong-Geun said as he stood up and left.
“Mom, please forgive me, I have learned my lesson, and I won’t do it again”.
” Well, you should have thought of that before “.
” Am sorry, ” she crawls to her and holds onto her leg. “Am sorry Mom, please forgive me, I promise to be a good girl “” She sniffs and her mother stares at her for a while before she helps her up and hugs her to herself. ” is ok dear”. she caressed her hair.
A week later, Baek-Hyun was discharged from the hospital and brought home, Ji-ho helped him to lay gently on the bed.
“Do you want anything?” she asked staring at her, but Baek-Hyun didn’t reply because he was lost in her, he only saw her lips moving but didn’t hear what she saying. “Baek-Hyun”. she snapped and he jerked up from his lust.” Are you okay?”.
“Um, yeah, you were saying?”.
” I asked if you need anything”.
“Um, yeah”.
” Ok, what do you need?”. she asked, and a smirk curved his face.
“Come closer and I will tell you”.
” Why can’t you tell me here”.
“I don’t want anyone to hear what I want to say to you”.
” You are unbelievable, is just the two of us here”.
“Actually, there are four of us”. he said and Ji-ho stared around wondering if there were another two persons in the room.
” Who are you referring to?” she asked confusedly and Baek-Hyun stared down at her stomach.
“Am talking about our babies”. he said and laughed.
” Are you being serious? how can you assume that they are two?” she asked
“I know, is what I put in there, I know my two adorable kids are growing in there”. he said and Ji-ho couldn’t help but smile.
“Enough of your silly talk, what can I get you?”.
“Come closer”. he took her hand and pulled her to himself. ” What I want is you” ” He caressed her cheek and leaned forward to kiss her but they got interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Son, you two should come down for dinner”. Mrs.I-jun said
” Let’s go”. she said as she helped him up and they left to join the rest in the dining room.
