He headed to her room balcony to recieve fresh breeze.
“Evil people had to pay for their crimes. If they could get away with the law, of course not with him” that was his believe after what had happened to him years ago, he made that resolve in his heart. He was in deep thoughts, he didn’t even notice that Lila was already up and she walked and stood beside him. When she noticed he’d really spaced out, she tapped him on his shoulders carefully.
“Lannon “she cooed. The man finally looked at her and then he sighed.
“Do you have to be stubborn all the time?” Those were the first words he said to her. She didn’t really have to see that. He was kinda angry.
“Are you really going to scold me”she looked at him”you should be apologising for letting me see that”she folded her arms.
“Letting you see that?”Lannon scoffed”you’re unbelievable”he turned to leave.
“Why did you ki|| him?”she suddenly asked
“That’s my job Lila. I ki|| evil people ”
“But my dad wasn’t evil neither was my uncle”her eyes were teary.
“Lannon could only sigh and then he moved closer to her so they were just inches apart”you aren’t so sure miss Steele “he said and then left.
Lila stood still, her eyes teary and misty. What did he mean by that? Without thinking twice she ran after him”hey, hey”she met him at the stairs.”what did you mean by that?”she held his hands.
“What?”Lannon looked at his hand held in hers.
“My dad. About my dad. What did you mean?”she was so confused, he had to give an answer.
“I have somewhere to be”he tried to remove her hand from his but she held it tighter.
“Please tell me”tears fell from her eyes”at least make me understand this one.”she begged.
Lannon looked at her and at that moment, she looked pitiful. He finally said “follow me”he made to walk away but she still held his hand so he stopped.
“To where?”she baited her lashes as she asked
“Are you coming or not?”
“I’m coming”she quickly said and held his hand even tighter as he led the way downstairs. They got to that room specially for all kinds of technolgy. Nobody was there, just the two of them.
“Can you let go off my hand now”he looked at her.
“Ah, sorry”she freed his hand”but what are we actually doing here?”
“Just sit and watch,will you?”
Lila slowly took a seat while he worked on a computer. Then the projector on the side wall of the room turned on and a video began to play. She began to watch in keen interest while Lannon just folded his hands and watched her. The video was a dark scene so she had to strain her eyes. It was a forest more like the woods and several peolpe were there among which two were taller than the others. When she looked closer, the smaller people were all children and the tall people, wait! Wasn’t that her uncle and father. The video didn’t have an audio so she didn’t hear what they were saying but after few seconds a man came and took all the children and then handed her father a huge bag. The video stopped and lila just sat still and frozen.
“That scene was caught by the surveillance cameras in the woods. Your dad and uncle were into child trafficking ” Lannon expounded.
Lila who sat frozen now suddenly melted “That’s a lie”she denied even when the video looked exactly like child trafficking. She didn’t want to believe. No, she could never believe.
“Fine. I will show you more then”he picked up the remote from the table and began showing her pictures of her dad and uncle caught unaware by surveillance cameras. One showed how they tied the children with ropes in the woods.
Lila quickly stopped him , her eyes teary”please stop. Just stop it” she was clearly irritated and confused.
Lannon shut down the system and furrowed his brows”believe now?”
“Is that why you ki||ed them?”her hands shook as she asked that question.
“They both deserved death. If i had known I had known what they did before they died, their death would have been gruesome.
“What are you implying? You didn’t ki|| them”she felt stupid. At that moment all her thoughts seemed to be absurd to her.
“I suppose i have answered that question lots of times. Answering you now changes nothing”
Tears fell from Lila’s eyes. She was silent.” But… but…I saw you that day you shot him” she was in a big muddle. If he shot her dad then why didn’t she find the body.
Lannon picked up the remote and then clicked some few buttons” look” he told her and slowly she looked up at the screen. It display the footage of what happened that day. Now she looked at it clearly her father was running but they were not chasing after him it was the other man and when they shot the man her dad was scared he thought they wanted to $h00t him and so he lost balance and fell off the cliffs down the sea.
” Your dad knew who we were and because he’d committed a lot of atrocities, of course he got scared thinking we were about to ki|| him”he paused the video. “If I knew who your dad was that day I would have definitely ki||ed him on the spot”
Lila, for the first time in her life she felt numb useless silent speechless what had she been thinking all those while her dad came back late almost at midnight. Why didn’t she suspect anything at then? He literally ki||ed himself from guilt.
” I miss him” she burst into tears “I miss my dad so much and even if he committed all those crimes I can’t bring myself to h@ťě him. He was my everything” she kept on crying while Lannon was only silent. “But that day I didn’t get to see your face you would have left me there. There was no way I could possibly found you guys. So why did you bring me here?”
” I told you miss Steele I have control issues”Lannon gave his simple reply
“And footages? Everything was recorded. Didn’t the law come to get you?
“Who?” Lannon chuckled. “look, my agency is properly registered by the state.”
” And they know you ki|| people?”
” No”
“Then…..”
“The world believes that the most required punishment for a criminal is the law. I don’t believe in the law, Lila I would rather ki|| a criminal. Though I turn in every criminal to the States. look, look I don’t need to explain all these to you. Just know that the footages of that day were only recorded for my purpose. No one else so that. satisfied?” he concluded
All Lila did was stare at him and in her eyes he was spinning. She blinked repeatedly but all she saw was him spinning and hee whole body went numb and eyes slowly closed.
“$h|t!! This woman. All you do is faint each day” Lannon cussed in frustration as he quickly supported her from landing on the ground. He picked her up and took her to her room then he quickly left because he had other matters to attend to.
