“What?”
“You heard me, I want you both to get a divorce and the earlier you do it the better for everyone” Granny Cathy stated.
Pearl had never thought about them getting a divorce and now that she’s hearing it, it made her a little terrified.
Will Jerome accept having a divorce…she thought as she stared at him.
“Why the silence? Aren’t you going to say anything?” Granny Cathy said watching her grandson.
“Come with me” he said, taking hold of Pearl hand.
“Stay here” he said as they got to his room, he was about to leave when she took hold of his hand.
“Will you agree to the divorce?”
“Never, we both made a vow and we are sticking to it till the end. Am going back downstairs to have a word with my grandmother, freshen up and get some rest ” he said before leaving the room.
For the next few hours, Pearl couldn’t stop wondering what was going on downstairs, she wanted to go and check it out but stopped herself.
The last thing she heard was the sound of a car roaring off and after that she heard nothing.
She became more tense wondering how things went when Jerome walk in.
“What happen? Who left just now?”
“My grandmother” he replied.
“But why?”
“She kept insisting that I get a divorce which I certainly won’t do, things became hot and she ended up leaving”
“Go after her, you can’t just let her leave like that” Pearl said.
“And am not willing to let my wife go” he said and Pearl went silent, pondering about what he just said.
“Jerome, we aren’t really married. It’s all a fake, you can’t let go of your grandma just for our marriage and so it’s….”
“Am adding a new clause to our contract” he said cutting her off suddenly.
“If one of us wish to get a divorce, he or she has to pay a billion to be free” he added.
“Billion? Are you kidding?”
“Am not, I mean it Pearl and so if you don’t want to pay that huge amount forget about the divorce. Am tried, you can go to your room since grandmother left” he said and pulled her out of the room before shutting the door on her face.
He stood against the door wondering why he’s hell bent on staying married to Pearl.
He even had a fight with his grandmother just to make his point…what exactly is wrong with him.

Dress and ready for work, Pearl got out of the room wondering if he left for work and after her brief search, she knew that he has.
She had a toast and egg which she made herself and was about to leave when she met grandmother Cathy by the door.
“Glad I caught you. Can we talk?” She said and reluctantly Pearl let her into the house.
“Am afraid Jerome isn’t at home and…”
“I know and Jerome isn’t the one I want to talk to. It’s you that I want to talk to” grandmother Cathy said.
“Give Jerome a divorce, I tried talking to him but he won’t listen which leaves just you” She said.
“But Jerome already spoke to you about it and…”
“Are you both really telling me that you did this for love cause I doubt that. You don’t love him and he clearly doesn’t love you. Jerome parents died when he was little and have been his guardian ever since, he grew up without love though I showered him with enough love but it isn’t like that of his parent”
“I made a vow then that I will make sure he marries a girl who will shower him with love but then this happen. You aren’t suitable for my grandson and so do the right thing and give him a divorce”
“Am sorry but I can’t do that” Pearl said thinking about the clause he added last night, where on earth will she get a billion.
Granny Cathy suddenly stood up and knelt in front of her.
“Granny…”
“Let me be. I won’t get up until you agree to it, I can’t watch my grandson going astray without doing something, please Pearl, let him go” Granny Cathy implore while Pearl watched her.

Pearl got out of her taxi thinking about her earlier conversation with granny Cathy when Stella approach her.
“It’s like a sync. We arrived together” Stella said holding onto her arm.
“Since you are older than me, you don’t mind me calling you big sis right?” Stella said as they both walk into the company.
“So about yesterday, will you help me with Jerome, I really really like him” Stella urge while Pearl found herself rethinking things.

Jerome was occupied with some paper work when he got a text from Pearl.
★ CAN YOU HAVE LUNCH WITH ME?★
★SURE★ he sent his reply quickly feeling excited.
This is the first time Pearl who ever stretch the olive branch to him.
He had thought that she will avoid him due to what happen last night but here she is inviting him out for lunch.
He was putting the paper work aside when Opal walk in.
“For your next appointment sir, you will…”
“Cancel it”
“Huh!”
“Am having lunch with my wife and I don’t want anything interrupting it” He said as he pick up his coat and left the office.

Jerome was already at the restaurant when he saw Pearl and she wasn’t alone.
“Hope am not late?” Pearl said as she got to his table while Stella meekly followed her.
“You are not but who…”
“Am Stella, the new model for your company project and a biggest fan of yours” Stella said as she took hold of his hand.
He gave a nervous laugh and pulled his hand out of hers.
“Is it the three of us having lunch?” Jerome asked wondering why Stella is present.
“No, I just got a call to return to the company for work but you can enjoy your lunch with Stella” Pearl replied and turning to Stella, she took hold of her and gave her a smile.
“Do your best” she said and left the restaurant.
“Should we order now, I’m famish” Stella said as she took her seat and reluctantly Jerome joined her.

<< JAMES RESIDENCE>>
“A call for you Mrs Grace” the maid said as Grace walk into the sitting room.
“Hello”
“This is Cathy King” On hearing the name, Grace let out a smile.
“Yes, what can I do for you Mrs King?” Grace asked.
“I did my part and so it’s time for you to do yours. You don’t support their marriage and I don’t support it too, find a way to get your daughter home, I want her out of my grandson life”
“We also want the same thing Mrs King and I will do my best to bring my daughter home” Grace said before ending the call.
On her private mobile she called a number and after three rings, he finally picked.
“Get me two of your best men, I need you to carry out an assignment”

<< JEROME RESIDENCE >>
“I did the right thing, I did the right thing” Pearl kept saying to herself as she unlock the door and walk in.
“She likes him and if he ends up liking her too then he will let me go and be with her” she told herself and was pulling off her shoe when the lights suddenly turn on.
Her eyes widen when she saw Jerome standing against the wall, glaring at her.
“That’s the reason you invited me out to lunch, so I can end up hitting it off with Stella” he said which made her look away in guilt.
“If you were bringing a girl who turns out to be boring f^^king gold digger then you should have given me a heads up….I kept wondering why you left, I…”
“Then what do you have me do? Pay a billion just to get a divorce, I can’t afford it and so, I thought that if you hit it off with Stella then you will let me go since our marriage is nothing but a contract one”
“It is a contract marriage but that doesn’t give you the right to sell me out”
“I didn’t sell you out to anyone “
“You did with Stella and it infuriates and hurts me a lot. Don’t I mean a thing to you?” Jerome asked and when she said nothing in reply, he took her answer as a yes.
“Where are you going?” Pearl ask as he walk past her heading to the door.
“Out” was his brisk reply as the door shut on her face.

It was late in the evening when Jerome got back from his long drive.
He stood by the door way and let out a sigh before going in.
The sight in front of him got him standing by the door way.
His well arranged apartment that he left a while ago has now been destroyed and there was no sight of Pearl.
He was about calling her when granny Cathy walk out of the kitchen.
“There’s no use calling her. She left with her parent, she’s gone from your life for good”
