CHAPTER 39⚔️40
Michael worked all through the day without taking a little break.He wanted to keep his mind occupied so he wouldn’t have to think about anything.He didn’t want to think about his mother or even recall his moments with Loveth and her words.
He had been tormented all day by the last words he heard from her and the sad look in her eyes. He felt like she might be somewhere crying and the thought of that made him feel shattered.
He was almost done with his work when a call came through his phone.His mind skipped as he saw the caller’s name. It was the inspector in charge of his sister’s case,Inspector Brian.
“Hello”he picked up the call.
“I am at your company’s cafeteria.Come down,I have some things to show you.”said the voice on the other end and Michael hurriedly left the office for the cafeteria.
He got there and they ordered some drinks as they sat in a table far away from the door.
“What did you find?”Michael asked impatiently.He wasn’t ready to engage in petty talks.
“I think we have found who could be the kidnapper of your sister.”said inspector Brian as he pushed some files towards Michael.
Michael opened the files and looked through before throwing a confusing look towards inspector Brian.
“That man in the picture is Mr Sylvester popularly known as Scar.He is the head of a notorious assassin gang named Angelic demon.21yrs ago it was said that he was found carrying a baby still in blood which means she had just been giving birth too though he said it was his child but uptil now there is no mother for the child.He is the lead suspect on the case as it is now.”said Brian and Michael nodded.
“Take this and show it to your mother. She might know him and help with our investigation”said Brian as he handed over a picture of Scar to Michael.
“Thank you very much,Brian”said Michael and he sighed sadly.
“No worries,bro.Don’t overthink it,I promise you that your sister will be found soon”said Brian and Michael forced out a smile.
Brian had been his best friend since high school and immediately they graduated.Brian went into the police force while he continued his mission of protecting Charles.
Brian had taken up his sister’s case immediately he joined the force and had been helping him ever since without collecting a penny.Though they scarcely hangout together because of their busy schedules but that didn’t affect their friendship.
Brian was a true definition of friendship and he was always there for Charles no matter what including financially. Brian’s family were among the third-tiers of rich class in the country but that didn’t make him proud.
“I hope so, Brian. My mother has been on my neck lately and I feel like the house will get more suffocating as days go by.”said Michael and Brian tapped his shoulder
“Endure for a little longer,dude.I have to go now. I will call you if I have any other information and make sure you call me if you find out anything”said Brian as he left the cafeteria.
Michael sat in the cafeteria for a while before going back to his office. His phone rang on his way and he looked at it. It was an unknown number and he reluctantly picked up the phone.
“Hello,who is this pls?”said Michael and he heard a dark chuckle from the other end.
“You have probably forgotten me as a Playboy that you are”said the other person at the other end and Michael felt a sense of familiarity in the voice. It was the lady he had segz with the other day.
“Loveth,right?why did you call?”asked Michael.
“You aren’t even sure about my name. I can’t blame you anyways but let’s meet at the bar we met the other day by 7:00pm”said Loveth.
“Am sorry,I don’t take drink with strangers.”said Michael and he heard a sad sigh.
“Am a stranger now,right?.No problem,I only want to clear things out with you nothing more”said Loveth and Michael held his head in frustration.
He didn’t want to get too close to her so he wouldn’t lose his restraint and fall for her. She was so tempting and he couldn’t deny that she was the first lady he slept with in his drunken state. To him,she was a temptation and the best thing to do was to avoid her.
“Think it over. I will be waiting at the bar”said Loveth and she hung up the call.
It wasn’t a bad idea to clear things with her but he was afraid that he might lose control and go out of boundaries when he sees her. He wanted to hold her tightly in his hands but at the same time he knew he had to let her go.
He walked into the his office still thinking about tonight’s appointment. He didn’t want to go but he wasn’t sure he will have a peace of mind if he let her wait for him in vain.
His conscience might continue to prock him but at the moment he was going crazy.Torn between his heart and mind.
