Chapter Eleven
“This is really delicious”Sarah said as she sat beside her at the dinner table.
Fannie smiled as she took the napkin to wipe the little girl mouth.
” Am glad you like them because I made it myself” Fannie said and Sarah’s eyes widen as she stared at them.
“I think you are the best ever”Sarah said earning a smile from Fannie.
Fannie looked up to see Alfred who was seated three chair away, starring at her.
This won’t do. She has to find a way to make Sarah stay away from her. If the girl keep trying to get close to her then definitely Alfred will do that too and she didn’t want that. She couldn’t allow him to get close to her again. She thought as she began to feel sick.
“You are looking pale Fannie. Let’s go somewhere so I can check on you”Chris said
“Am okay Chris. You don’t have to fuss over me like a mother hen” Fannie said as he held her free hand which layed on the table.
“Am worried about you Fannie. So please let me do something”Chris said starring at her.
Fannie didn’t want her suspicion to be true but seeing the look on Chris face definitely tells her that he is inlove with her.
She didn’t bargain for this. She never wanted to lead Chris on. She only thought of him as a friend and nothing else. She thought as their attention was taken by one of John close friends bringing it back to the couple.
While people mingle with each other, Fannie excused herself. Somehow she had managed to get Sarah attention somewhere else and so she began to head to the rest room.
She didn’t know why she was suddenly feeling hot. Could it be what she is thinking. She thought as she stood resting her back on the wall while she breathe in deeply.
“We’ve got to talk” Alfred said suddenly and she turned to look at him.
“We have nothing to talk about”She said as she began to head to the rest room.
She had last seen him talking to a lady who had clearly shown interest in him and he had obviously liked the attention he was being given. So how on earth did he notice her.
She was about entering the rest room when he pulled her back.
“I still have a lot of things to talk to you about”He said.
“But I don’t want to talk to you. I already told you to pretend that you don’t know me. Don’t act like this”She managed to say weakly.
“How should I act ? I find out that the girl I had almost married years ago is nothing but a thief and I also learn that she was sick years ago”He said suddenly and she stared at him, surprised that he knew.
“Who told you that?”She asked.
“John did. Just what happened years ago Fannie. Am beginning to doubt the version you told me” he said
“I have nothing to say to you”She said as she tried to leave.
“You not giving me a reply certainly tells me that you are lying to me. what happened years ago Fannie?. Make me understand”He said and she stopped to stare at him.
“You don’t have to understand anything Alfred. You came to attend the wedding and so please focus on that”She said as she began to head back to the party.
Instead of doing as she said. He walked towards her and back hugged her.
“I just can’t do it. I can’t do it Fannie”He said
“What are you doing Alfred?”She asked as she tried to pull his hand away but he tightened his hold on her.
“I know I should be angry at you. I should only think of you as a thief but I can’t do that. Instead of being angry at you. I am jealous. I get very jealous seeing you and Chris together. It’s driving me crazy, Fannie.”He said
Fannie stood still in his arms. She should be pulling him away but instead she found herself moving into his arms.
If this is the only way she can get to be in his arms again . Then she will just accept it. She thought as she snuggled close while he pulled her to him.
“We have been separated for years now. Have miss you like crazy?” He said.
She would have love to say the same thing too but she wasn’t given the chance to do so because they heard a voice behind them.
“What are you two doing?”
