Chapter Ten
Alfred stood among John relative, watching them bicker with each other.
He had been introduced to John parents again and also to some of their close friends which had been invited to dinner that night.
While they all fussed over the soon to be couple. He left, heading back upstairs to check on Fannie and Sarah.
Ever since he and Chris left them upstairs. They haven’t shown up.
He got there to see Fannie and Sarah just coming out of the room.
He stared at Fannie. Admiring the way she look. She had been skinny Six years ago and had little curves but now she had more flesh on her and her curves were more alluring than ever. He felt his groin responding to his lustful thoughts and desire.
If he had been somewhere else with her. He would have layed her down and make love to her before getting her to talk but this isn’t the right place for it. He thought as he went towards them.
“You look pretty. Pretty Fannie”Sarah said and Fannie knelt in front of her.
“Why do you call me that?”Fannie asked starring at the replica of Alfred.
“It’s because you are pretty. Is my daddy handsome?”She asked catching Fannie off guard. Fannie was still contemplating on what to say when she heard his voice.
“You shouldn’t ask that sort of question Sarah” Alfred said as he moved towards them.
“I have to know what she thinks about you daddy” Sarah said looking up at him.
“Why don’t you go downstairs instead. I saw your favourite cake there”Alfred said
“Are there really serving chocolate cake downstairs?” She asked excitedly and he nodded. Immediately she ran off, leaving the two adult alone.
Fannie was quite safe having the Van and Sarah around her but now that there was no one. She would just have to get away from him.
“You are looking lovely” He said and she stared at him only to see the look of desire in his eyes.
“Thank you. I think we should head down too” She said quickly but he pulled her back.
“Until when will you keep on acting like this?”He asked.
“Acting as how?”She feigned ignorance as she tried to pull away.
“You know what am talking about Fannie!” He said again.
“Am sorry but I don’t and i don’t think this is the right way to behave with someone you just met”She said
“Someone I just met? Are you really going to deny knowing me?”he asked and when she didn’t reply. He opened her door and pulled her in.
“What are you do……” She stopped when he pushed her against the wall and towered over her.
“How can you deny knowing me? I know for a fact that you know who I am. So don’t you dare act like you don’t “He said and she stayed quiet starring at him.
“Will my knowing you change a thing?”Fannie asked only to see the anger in his eyes.
“Yes! It does. Do you know how long have been searching for you? Do you know how desperate I tried looking for you? What had happened then? What made you leave me like that?”He asked
“I already explained in the letter”She replied.
“You call that an explanation?”He asked and she nodded without looking at him.
“Well I don’t! I want to hear it from you. Something must have happened to make you leave in that way? Was it because of what my sister said at the restaurant”He asked moving close to her.
Fannie breathe in his scent and was lost for a while. She wanted to pull him close to her but she stopped herself. She had thought that her feelings for him all died years ago but seeing him again and having him this close resurrected the whole thing which is not good.
She had left him because it was the best decision and she still can’t go back to him. Not now or ever.
“I have nothing to say Alfred. I said everything years ago”She said as she tried to move away but he didn’t let her have her way.
“Well I have a hard time believing you. You loved me then Fannie. I could see it your eyes and…….”
“Love? I didn’t love you back then Alfred. All I did was just so you would let me go but you insisted on getting married to me and knowing that I had nothing and no one I accepted you and I even gave myself to you just to make you believe my lies which worked perfectly” She said.
“Lies! They are all lies!”He yelled at her.
“They aren’t. I didn’t love you back then Alfred. What I was in love with was your money and after getting a huge part of it from your sister. I left”She said
“From my sister? What does she have to do in all of this?” He asked
“Judging from the surprise look on your face. She never told you about it right? Well your sister came to me the next day and offered me money. Money which is enough to last me a life time. I took it from her and left.”She said.
“That’s a lie”He said not believing her words.
“What? Too harsh for you listen to. Well you wanted me to tell you the truth which am doing . I never love you, all I wanted was your money but luckily I got a great offer from your sister which help me from getting married to you” she replied adding more damage to the issue on ground.
He stood starring at her with pained eyes and she looked away not wanting to get swayed by it.
“Am a thief. A thief who came into your life to steal from you. Always put that in mind when you see me”She said and moved away from him, heading to the door way.
“I would like it if you act like you don’t know me. It’s been years since we last saw each other and am sure that your wife wouldn’t like this. Please leave my room”She said as she left the room heading downstairs.
Alfred stayed in Fannie room while he called Tiffany. Somehow he didn’t believe what she told him.
Something didn’t add up here and the only way he could confirm is by asking Tiffany about it.
She picked the call on the third ring. ” Missing me already?” Tiffany asked through the receiver.
“I need you to confirm something for me Tiffany ” He said
“What do you want me to confirm?” She asked cheerfully.
“I met Fannie” he said to her and she took a while before replying.
“Really? You were searching for her for some time in the past. You must be glad seeing her again” Tiffany replied.
“I am, but she said something to me” He told her.
“What did she tell you?” Tiffany asked.
“That you payed her just so she could leave me”He replied hoping she would deny it.
His sister have always been there for him. She would rather get hurt than to let him get hurt. She have always been protective of him that he sometimes think of her as his mom. She wouldn’t do something to hurt him. She wouldn’t be capable of paying Fannie just so she would get out of his life.
“You are taking too long to reply”He said when she failed to respond quickly and when she did reply. She confirmed the whole thing Fannie said to him.

“Try this! It’s really good” Chris said as he gave her a glass of Juice.
She was sipping it when she noticed Alfred walking into the room and the look on his face told her that he must have called Tiffany to confirm what she told him.
She caught his gaze and the angry look he sent her way made her shiver in fear. She had asked for it. She had wanted him to h@ťě her and she succeeded. She should be glad about it but somehow it made her feel worse.
“Are you okay?”Chris asked as he touched her face.
“I am”She replied as she tried to move back, almost colliding with the waiter, when Chris pulled her towards him.
This got Fannie more close to Chris and instead of letting go like he was meant to. He held her and pushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“You look pale. Have you been using the drugs I gave you?” He asked and she nodded in return.
“I never fail to use them”She replied.
“Then why do you look so pale?” Chris asked worriedly and Fannie sighed knowing her being pale didn’t have anything to do with being sick but it had to do with Alfred.

“Don’t they look cute together?”John asked as he came to stand beside Alfred who was starring at Fannie and Chris who were now together.
“Do they? “Alfred asked starring at Fannie who was now laughing at what Chris was telling her.
He clenche and unclenche his hand in anger. She had lied to him and had taken the money given by his sister years ago. He should be mad at her. Should get angry at her but seeing her in Chris arms is driving him crazy with jealousy.
“Of course. She and Chris have known each other for about Five years now. If Chris step up, he will certainly succeed in getting her” John said
“I doubt that” Alfred mumbled.
“What did you say?”John asked
“Nothing. What exactly brought the two of them together?”Alfred asked wanting to know what brought the two of them together.
“Am not really sure but I think that he had met Fannie when she was patient in our hospital” John replied.
“A patient? What do you mean?” Alfred asked.
Had Fannie been sick?
