Chapter Five
“Aren’t you going to take my hand?”he asked as he stared at Hillary who stood starring at his outstretched hand.
“Sorry! I was just surprised”she replied as she quickly slipped her hand into his
“Why were you surprised?”he asked
“Well that’s because I…….never mind, I will go back to work”Hillary gave an excuse quickly
“Don’t go! I have to thank you for helping me”He said but not wanting any association with him, she declined and got into the lift, pressing the button for the 202 floor.
“That was a close call, what were you thinking when you got into the elevator?”Louis, Richard personal guard assigned by his mom who wanted to protect her son said as he stood in the suite given to Richard.
“I had to, if I wanted things to go well, I had to do it”Richard replied as he stared at his laptop.
This is the only way he could get close to Hillary Raven, The girl who is shameless enough to steal someone else husband.
It all began when he got back to their family house only to see his mother crying in her room, Clutching a scarf in her hand.
He could remember that he had walked in asking her what happened and while crying she explained it all to him.
“Your father is cheating on me. At first I thought he was always busy with work but it turned out that she has been the one he has been visiting, I didn’t want to believe it and so I got someone to investigate and he came back with my suspicions being the truth “She cried and he held her in his arms.
He knew their marriage wasn’t a marriage filled with love but then he had always believed his father to be honourable and truthful to his mother.
“Who is she mom?”He asked and she moved out of his arms to show him a picture of Hillary and James together.
“He even got her an apartment and have the slut name under it “She said and Richard stared at the picture, angry at his father and also his slut of a mistress.
“And this scarf? I found it amongst his clothes, I never buy him a scarf and judging from the texture, it’s handmade, only his mistress could have given it to him, I don’t know what to do Richard, i love your father, have always loved him and I stayed with him only because I was hoping that he would love me back some day but this! This is too much!”She said and he held her in his arms again.
It was then and there that Richard vowed to do something about it.
He had gone to the house the next day and had confirmed his mother words.
His father came out with Hillary, they were both talking and didn’t notice him watching, she had the same scarf his mother had shown him around her neck. His father arm around Hillary confirmed the whole thing.
A week has passed since the day he saw them. A week of thinking of a way to put a stop to the whole thing and luck was on he side when he found out that she was working as a maid in one of their hotel, the hotel he had been put In charged while he finished his business course at school.
She must also be studying at the same school with him, he must know which department she is in before the school break ends the day after tomorrow.
His father didn’t have any taste, how could he date a girl who is just two years younger than him, he could tell that she was in between twenty to twenty one.
Well at least their first meeting was quite how he wanted it, he just had to play his card right! He thought.

“You look worn out”Tracy said as Hillary walked into the house.
“Have been cleaning like crazy” she replied as sat on the sofa, sighing in content as she layed on its softness.
“I told you that you don’t have to work,James will take care of you if you just let him”Tracy added
“And I told you that I don’t want his money and also I met his son today”Hillary said
“Really? Did he notice anything? What did he say?”Tracy bombarded her with questions
“He didn’t notice a thing and besides I didn’t stay long to chat with him. See; you get scared each time his family is mentioned, don’t you think it’s time you stop this relation ……”
“I won’t Hillary. I told you already, I love James and I will keep on being his mistress until he gets a divorce, so stop trying to talk me out of it ” Tracy said getting angry.
“Fine then! I won’t say a thing again but instead, I will promise you that I will avoid his son as long as I can, so you don’t have to worry about me spilling the whole thing”Hillary assured Tracy who gave her a smile in return.
The next day as she went to work, she knew that the Watson lived together, though he is old enough to live by himself, James made it clear that they all lived in the Watson estate and so she won’t have to see him again and besides the staff room was quite a long walk to the suites.
Even if he was staying at the hotel for a while, she doubted that she will be running into him.
She got to the staff room only to see two maid admiring a bunch of roses.
“She’s here”Joy, one of the maid said as she came to pull Hillary towards the table that the roses was placed
“This came in for you this morning”Ara, the second maid in the room said as she handed Hillary the roses
“Are you sure this is for me?”Hillary asked and they both nodded, pulling out the card that had her name written boldly on it.
Who could it be from? She thought as she opened the envelope to read the contents in it.
“I didn’t thank you properly yesterday, I
hope you like them and I also hope you
Will give me a chance to take you out
to dinner, call me when you decide”
The number was scribbled down and his name came after it.
She should have known that he will be the only one to send something like this to her, she thought as she gave the flowers back to Joy.
“Don’t you like it? “Joy asked
“I don’t like roses, you can Keep it if you want”she said as she went to the changing room.
Dinner my foot! Trying to get to me by inviting me out, she thought as she tore the paper into shreds and throwing it into the bin.
She shouldn’t get involved with James son, it’s for the best that she stays away.
The morning staff were getting off work while the night staff came in to take over.
Tomorrow the school break will be over and every one will return to school, she would have to take on the night duty if she wants her schedule to go right.
She had her book in her hand as she walked out of the hotel, trying to arrange a perfect schedule for work and school.
She didn’t notice someone waiting by the door until he called her by the pet name Tracy created for her.
“Hello Richard”She plastered a smile on her face, pretending to be pleased to see him.
“I thought you left Lara”he said again
“Lara? How come you are calling me that?”she asked
“Hillary seems a bit too long and so I decided to shorten it, if you don’t like it I can call you…..”
“It’s okay! I only have two people calling me that way, you will be the third”she said starring at everywhere else but him
“Did you get my flower and message?”he asked
“I did and I will give you my answer now….what I did yesterday, anyone else would have done it and i know that you want to try to make it up to me but am okay with just you thanking me”She said
“Are you declining my offer to take you to dinner?”He asked softly
“Yes, am declining”Hillary said and felt a bit saddened by her refusal
He moved towards her and pushed a strand of hair away from her face.
“You are the first girl to refuse me”he said as he smiled at her.
A smile which got Hillary melting for a while.
She moved away from him quickly and tried to put her hair back in order.
“Take care Richard and don’t stay long in an enclosed place, it isn’t good for your phobia”she said quickly and walked off.
Her heart was beating fast and she wondered if it had to do with his closeness to her.
If it was any other circumstance, she would have agreed but as it turns out, he is someone she shouldn’t even think of getting involved with.
Richard watch her leave and smiled softly, she is not going to be an easy prey but he wouldnt give up too, he vowed silently.
