Chapter Forty-one
The next day, Jasmine was at the library reading when her cell phone vibrated with an incoming message.
💬WHERE ARE YOU?”.💬 Desmond texted.
💬AT THE LIBRARY, WHY?💬
she waited for his reply, no reply, she sighed and continued her reading.
“Hey”. A voice said from behind. She turns to see an unfamiliar face smiling at her.”Can I join you?”.He asked.
“Sure”.She said and the boy sat down.
“Um, my name is Dave and I am a new student here”.He said.
“Oh, I see, what class are you?”.
“Grade c”.
“Oh, the fifth building, nice to meet you, am Jasmine”.
“Nice to meet you too”.They continue talking.
Desmond enters the library and he stops to see Jasmine chatting with an unfamiliar guy, he wonders who he is.
“Wow, that’s great”. Jasmine laughed.
“I didn’t know you have a similar taste”.Dave said and then stood up.”I will catch up with you later, I have physics class to catch up on”.
“Sure, see you some other time”.They bid each other goodbye and he left.
“Who is he?”. Desmond asked from behind and Jasmine flinched.
“Gosh!”.
“You haven’t answered my question, who was that guy?”.He asked sitting down facing her.
“A friend”.She replies.
“A friend? I have never seen him before, so, how come he is a friend to you”.
“We just met”.
“And you consider him to be a friend”.
“Do you have a problem with that?”.
“No”.He scoffed and brought out a can of juice.
“Wow, is that mine?”.She asked happily and tried to take it, but Desmond took it back.
“No”.
“Why? Isn’t that for me?”.She frowns.
“Not anymore, it’s mine and I didn’t tell you that I was bringing juice to you”.
“Then why do you text me to ask me where I was?”.
“I guess my hands slipped while operating my phone”.He said and Jasmine scoffed.”Why not tell your newfound friend to buy you one”.
“Of course, I will, Moron”.She frowned and turned to her book. Desmond stared at her and smirked, then he pulled the juice closer to her.
“You can have it”.
“Not interested anymore”.She said.
“Ok”.He said and tried to take the juice but Jasmine grabbed it from him.”What, I thought you didn’t want it anymore”.
“Yeah, right”.She opened it and drank from it.
“Aren’t you going to say thank you?”.
“For what?”.She takes another sip.
“You are so ungrateful”.He said and they went quiet for a while.”Jasmine”.He called.
“Mm”
“Is everything ok?”.He asked and Jasmine raised her face to him.
“Yeah, why did you ask?”.
“Mom said you stopped by her office yesterday to have a discussion with her, so, I want to know if everything is ok”.
“Um, yeah, everything is fine, we just talk”.
“About what?”.
“Well, is nothing to worry about”.
“Are you sure?”.
“What’s with you? Why do you look worried?”.She asked confusedly.
“I just thought if you have challenges at home or something”.
“No, the discussion I had with Mom was not about me or my family, it was something else”.She said.
“Ok, fine you say so”.
“Yeah”.

Days later, Olivia came to meet Jasmine on the roof with Martha chatting.
“Hey”.She said and they turned to her.”Um, sorry for interrupting you guys, I need to talk to you, Jasmine”.She said.
“Alright, I will excuse you guys to talk”.Martha said and walked away.
“Is there a problem?”. Jasmine asked and Olivia sat next to her.
“Not really, I just wanted to let you know I will be moving out with my family tomorrow”.She said and Jasmine was surprised.
“So soon?”.
“Yes”.She smiled forcedly.
“Am so sorry”.
“You don’t have to, thank you, Jasmine, thank you for everything”.
“You don’t have to, but I thought you were going to graduate with us before you moved out”.
“No, the earlier we leave, the better for us”.
“Oh, it’s ok, I wish you the best of luck”.
“Thank you”.She smiled and Jasmine pulled her into her arms.
“Take care of yourself ok? Work hard to make your family proud”. Jasmine said and Olivia sniffed.
“I will”.They pulled away from each other and smiled.”Thank you”.
“You are welcome”.
“Alright, I will see you in class”.She stood up and left.
Later at home, they were having their dinner.
“Jasmine dear, please pass me the salt”. Grandma Alma said.
“Ok”.She passes the salt to her.
“This meal tastes delicious, you are improving by the day”.Mr.James said.
“Thanks, Dad, I learn from the best”.She said and they laughed.
“And I am proud of you”.Mrs.Lucia said.
“So, Jasmine, I was mainly to ask, when are you rounding up your school?”. Grandma Alma asked.
“In months time”.
“Wow! So soon?”.Mrs.Lucia asked.
“Yes, Mom”.
“That’s good to know, have you chosen the university you want to go to?”.Mr.James asked.
“Yes, I will study here, I don’t want to go far away from home”.She said.
“That’s a good idea”. Grandma Alma said.
They smile and continue Their meal.

The next day, the news of Olivia leaving school to relocate with her family to another city spread around her class and everyone was talking about it.
“Did she tell you she was leaving?”.1st girl asked talking to Daisy.
“No, she never did”. She said surprisedly.
“That’s unlikely of her”.1st girl said.
“I heard her family went broke and they decided to sell their mall and relocate to another city,”.2nd girl said and they gasped in surprise.
“Are you serious?”. Daisy asked and she nodded.
Just then the teacher entered and they became silent as she started to address the class.
“Alright everyone, listen up, we are starting a new project soon and every one of you will have a partner and you two can do the project together, each project work carries 100 marks and it’s added to your test, do you understand?”.She asked.
“Yes, Ma!!”.They chorus simultaneously.
“Good, this is how you can choose a partner, the girls will write their names on a piece of paper, fold it, and place it in this box .”.She said and continued.”The boys will come over and pick, any name you see on the paper, that person will be your partner…start now!”.She orders and they obey as she instructs, they submit their names. “Alright, let the boys come over and pick”.She said.
After a while, she asked them to open the note and see who their partner was, they did, some were amazed by who they had as a partner, while some were angry by the partner they picked. Desmond opened his own and a smile curved his lips.
