CHAPTER EIGHTEEN:

Skylar ?️

I gasped heavily, rubbing my eyes with the back of my palm.

I had thought the night to be a wonderful one but I was wrong.

Getting chased by your worst nightmare is something unbearable but, watching your nightmare ki||, that’s something more worst to bear.

I sighed in frustration, heading down for a hot coffee wishing it would be of great help to erase my weird dream.

Today is another day to gather more flowers and the other one Donald had asked me to get.

Just yesterday, Crystal’s father told me where to find it. Although he had said they were somehow good as the calendula, on the other side, he also said they were rare medicines.

Also, Donald called me, asking me how things were going here on Shaman. Well, everything is going well here.

What should I say?

Mysteries are happening, bodies missing day after day, freaking dreams, scary nights? No, that’s not a good answer.

Everything is going perfectly fine with me here.

It’s only but two days I’ve got to be here. Two days and yet, I haven’t seen what this monster is. It’s kinda crazy, you can say that but the truth is, I need to know who the f_ck is ki||ing this people.

This time it was Crystal and I doing the picking. Oh, thank God. Things seems a lot easier for me when she’s helping. We had discussions probably not concerning Shaman or whatsoever.

It’s just about life at California.

I was happy, very happy that each time I looked at her, I saw Vera. And you know, it won’t be a bad thing to have two crazy sisters at the same time. I’m talking about when I finally take her to the city with me.

That won’t be a bad idea either, would it?

We returned back to the village, dropping the flowers we had picked where I had kept the others. We were still on this our same eternity discussion and it was all like it was coming to no end.

Not complaining.

And we were like this that we didn’t no when the night surfaced. ‘d@mn! It’s time for dinner’ say’s the monster.

“It’s getting late, you have to go home.” I told her.

She nodded, “thanks for the discussion.”

“Well, it’s nothing. Just trying to spend the day with something nice. ”

She stood up, ” it was actually more than just nice. Would you mind spending the night at my place?”

I wouldn’t, but I can’t. I don’t wanna be so dependant on them. Not that I’m not really scared of being alone or that I can stand having that freaking dreams with no one by my side. But I can’t, not today.

“I’ll be fine.” I said.

She shrugged.

“Come on, I’ll walk you home.”

We got to a point where she had told I should return back. Feeling concerned, huh? We departed saying a goodnight to each other.

Silently, I walked back. Two days and I’ll be back home, far away from here. But that won’t be nice, you know. Especially when you end up not getting what you want.

You know what I mean, don’t you?

I heard the cry of a woman not far from where I was, I gasped back to reality heading to where the sound was heard. Someone needs help.

I watched her crying beside a lifeless body, I watch how she moved the body but there was no sign of life.

I walked closer, “hey?” causing her to look at me. “What happened?” I asked.

The woman wiped off her tears, trying not to stare at me with the wet eyes. She was ashamed.

“She…” She began, her voice shaky. “She said she wanted to pee over ten minutes ago and we had waited for her to return, she never did. So … I came out to look for,,, only to find her this way. It ki||ed her. The monster, it took my daughter away from us. ” She started crying again, taking her eyes off me.

I went to where she squatted, hugging her to myself. “It’s okay. It’s okay.”

“She’s my only daughter. She my only child.”

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. ” After a long while, I broke the hug to look at her, ” you have to go.”

“What?” She asked almost like a whisper.

“Leave your daughter and go back home.”

“What are you saying? She’s my daughter, I can’t just leave her here. She might be dead but she’s still my child. ”

” The monster had only left her on purpose. Haven’t you thought of this? He never leaves his victims, he takes them with him. He’ll be coming back for her body and if he doesn’t finds it, he’ll come for both your daughter’s body and you. ”

” I can’t.”She cried.

” Do you wanna die too? Do you want to leave your remaining family for her? ”

She looked at her lifeless daughter,” then go back home. ” I said with finality and she did went back.

I looked around only to find myself standing alone. I heasten my movement praying to God for a safe walk back home. I have wanted every chance to see this monster, but I don’t think I am ready to see it now.

I’m f_cking shivering right now.

I heard the sound of a deep breath from the back. It was like that of a hungry Lion about to feed on it’s prey. I felt a sudden stiffness in my body, this time I wasn’t dreaming.

This was a f_cking reality.

My breath siezed, leaving me to gasp after every ten seconds. Slowly, I turned to my back staring at the way the monster sliced her neck off her head and drinking her splashing blood.

I wanted to scream, I wanted every strength to scream out loud but I couldn’t. It was big, mighty and huge. I could only see it’s back, but with the way it’s back view was, I had to guess what it really looked like.

I mean, how ugly it looks like.

I made a step backwards and another, this time stepping on a dried stick causing a sound for the monster in front to know someone was watching it.

But before I can tell what happened, before it could see me, someone pulled me by my arm. I felt a hand one my mouth ’cause I almost screamed when I felt someone pulled me.

The monster passed where we hid two times and when it couldn’t find us, it ran away.

I took a thousand breath wishing I had never prayed to see it at the first place. It was all like staring at the devil himself.

Was I really staring at the Devil?

“What are you doing out here?” I heard the voice ask me.

“I… I was walking back home. ” I said still in shock.

” What was that thing? ” I asked.

” Shaman’s greatest fear. ”

” It ki||ed her. It cut off her head. I… ”

” I need to get you home. ”

” You don’t understand! ”

” I do. But right here isn’t the place to talk. The monster might still be out here. ”

Who the hell are you?

“ That’s rude, Skylar. ”

“Where is your house?”

I pointed out, not minding where my finger was pointing at. He bent the door knob, letting it open as we walked in. He helped me sit on the couch beside the door. I was shivering, and I couldn’t stop from the fear.

“Are you from this village?” He asked.

I shook, “you?” not looking at him.

“No.”

“Have you…” I paused, then continued, “have you seen that thing before?”

“Everyday.” I looked at him. “I see it everyday. ”

” How? And it haven’t seen you? ”

” No. ”

I took a long deep breath, sighing heavily. ” I just met her mother few minutes ago, she was crying. That girl, was her only daughter. Is this how it ki||s? ”

” Yes. Then takes their body to nowhere.” He answered. “I’ve been searching for where the missing bodies were but I haven’t seen it yet. ”

” Why does it ki||s this innocent people? Why them? ”

” It is said that there is a history behind it. A history no one knows. ”

Now I am regretting it. It would have been safer spending the night at Crystal’s place. It’s just me with the fear.

He stood up about to go. He got to the door, he stopped turning to me. “I’m Jake.”

“Skylar.”

“Good night, Skylar. ” He left.

f_ck tonight!

f_ck today!
