Chapter 26
“Thanks”Kiara smiled, collecting it
“O-kay… Let’s try another game out”Ken said, slapping his palms together.
They tried a few other games out and Ken was able to win a prize for Emily like he had been hoping to.
An hour of fun later and they were on their way out of the park.
“We’ll be on our way now”Ken said to Erik when they got to the exit. “It was really fun hanging out together”
Erik nodded while Kiara smiled.
“Bye Kiara”Emily said before leaving with Ken.
“Kiara and Mr Erik seem close”Emily said to Ken as they walked.
“Of course, she’s his assistant”Ken said.
“You know what I’m talking about”She said.
He laughed.
“Mr Erik has a girlfriend. He and Kiara are just getting along”He said”Probably” He muttered.
She chuckled.
“What was that?”Erik asked Kiara.
“What?”Kiara asked.
“Pretending like you came to the park alone when Ken and Emily showed up”He said “You’re embarrassed to be seen with me?”
“No,I just didn’t want them to get the wrong idea. And… You have a girlfriend so…”
“We’re just friends” He said.
“I know but it’s just…”
“You don’t have to feel awkward hanging out with me because I have a girlfriend. We’re just friends, right?”
“Yeah, friends”She nodded with a smile.
“So,dinner” He asked.
“Sure” Kiara answered as they began walking to his car.
“I won you a teddy bear so you should be the one to pay”
“Seriously?”
“I was joking”
“I didn’t know you tell jokes”
“Hey” He frowned at her.
She laughed.
Kiara stood in front of Erik’s desk, reading out his schedule to him while he smiled as he stared at her.
“You’ll be having meeting with an investor by ten am and by one pm, you’ll be having a lunch meeting with the company’s shareholders”She read out. “That’s all for today’s schedule sir”She said
She returned his smile, seeing that he smiled at her.
“Has Ken prepared the documents I’ll be presenting to the investor?” He asked.
“Yes sir” She nodded.
“Alright,you can get back to your desk”He said.
She nodded and went back to her desk.
“See,things are now good between you and Mr Erik. I told you he’s a great boss”Ken said to her .
She smiled.
“And,I had no idea he was the fun loving type. I was really surprised to see him at the park last night”He said.
She laughed lightly.
Ken smiled before going back to what he was doing while Kiara opened her bag and brought out her pink jotter.
She smiled as she stared at it, remembering Emily’s advice to show it to Erik.
“Yeah,I should show it to him” She muttered in her head.
Erik came out of his office some minutes later.
“Let’s go” He said to Kiara.
Kiara stood.
“Ken,the documents”She said and Ken handed it to her.

°° AN HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES LATER °° ~
Erik sat at a table in front of a middle aged man while Kiara stood behind him.
Two coffees were on the table. One in front of Erik and the other in front of the man.
The man was going through the documents which Kiara had earlier laid out in front of him while Kiara and Erik watched him earnestly.
The man later picked the pen on the desk and put his signature on the documents.
Erik smiled satisfactorily.
The man stood and Erik did the same.
“Thanks for accepting to invest in Tech Builders sir”Erik said. “You won’t regret it”He added.
“Stick to the contract”The man said.
“Of course”He nodded.
The man left the cafe after sharing an handshake with Erik.
Kiara smiled.
“The meeting went well”She said.
“You should have sat instead of standing”Erik said to Kiara as they left the cafe.
“It was an official meeting. It wouldn’t feel right to sit as your assistant”She said.
“Being my assistant doesn’t mean you can’t sit during my meetings. Next time,when you go with me to a meeting you should sit. Some meetings take as long as two hours. Are you willing to stand that long?”
“If I’m required to,then yes”She said.
“You’re not. So,next time,you should sit”He said, turning to face her.
“Yes sir”She said.
He chuckled at how cute she looked.
“What?”She asked.
“Nothing”He said and got into his car.
He sat at the backseat while Kiara sat the front with the driver.
The driver started the car.
The ride was a quiet one with Erik staring at Kiara while Kiara stared down at her jotter, making up her mind to show it to Erik by the end of the day.
She raised her head to look at him through the rearview mirror.
He was looking sideways but the side view of his face alone was breathtaking.
A few strands of his hair stopped right beneath his left brow and his alluring hazel eyes added to his already exquisite facial features.
She gazed at him, unknowingly,her lips slightly parting.
She saw him look at her and she looked away immediately,realizing she had been gazing at him.
“Hold on”Erik said to the driver a minute later while staring out of the car window at a white car parked in front of a restaurant which was a few feet ahead of them “That’s Ivy’s car”He said and Kiara turned,looking out of the car window also. “Stop the car”He said again and the driver parked right behind the white car.
Erik stepped out of his car.
Kiara did the same also and followed him as he went into the restaurant.
His eyes scanned the scanty but nicely organized restaurant for a few seconds until they finally fell on Ivy.
She was seated at a table by his right but she wasn’t seated alone.
A man was beside her and they were holding hands. Her head was on his shoulder while the man’s hand stroked her hair.
No one needed to explain to him the scene in front of him.
He felt his heart sting,his eyes reddened with tears and his body shook.
He stood fixated on his spot, unable to move as he watched them. It felt like a dream to him. He wanted it to be a dream. He didn’t want to believe Ivy was cheating on him – in front of him.
Kiara’s eyes widened in shock as she saw the scene. The Ivy she knew was a really nice lady and couldn’t possibly be the one she was looking at. Ivy couldn’t do such a hurtful thing to Erik,she was way too nice for that. But,the more she looked,her disbelief slowly turned to disappoinment.
As much as Erik wanted to believe the scene in front of him was a dream,it got into his head so much that reality dawned itself on him.
Ivy suddenly looked up when she felt eyes on her and her eyes almost bulged in shock when she saw Erik. Her eyes met with his.
Erik scoffed in disbelief,the tears in his eyes thr_@tening to fall as his heart stung painfully.
Finally gaining his posture,he looked away from the hurtful scene and turned, walking out of the restaurant.
“Erik”Ivy called, running after him.
She caught up with him outside and held his hand.
“Erik, it’s not what you think,I can explain”She said,panting.
“Explain?”Erik asked in disbelief,turning to face her. “I think I pretty much understood what I saw in there”He said “Was he the reason you didn’t want us to go on any date this week? The reason why you’re always bailing out on me, giving me less attention”He said hurtfully.
“Erik,I… I’m sorry”She said.
Kiara watched them, concern evident in her eyes as she stared at Erik,she could tell how hurt he must be feeling right now
“You’re sorry?”
“Yeah, I’m sorry,what else do you expect me say?” She asked, letting go of his hand.
Erik looked at her,not believing his ears.
The man Ivy was cuddling with in the restaurant came out also.
“We were eventually going to break up anyways so we might as well break up now” Ivy said.
“What?”Erik muttered.
“You weren’t expecting us to last were you?”She smirked “You shouldn’t be surprised I’m leaving you. You’re used to being abandoned by the people you love” She said.
“What?”Erik said, sounding really hurt and sad.
Kiara stood at her spot. How could Ivy say such hurtful words to him despite what she did. She didn’t even feel remorseful and was rather making Erik hurt more.
“Bye” Ivy said to him with no ounce of pity in her as she went to meet her ‘supposed lover’ who wrapped an arm around her.
“I thought you already broke up with him”Kiara heard the man ask Ivy as they walked back into the restaurant.
“I was looking for a way to break up with him without breaking his heart but I guess I don’t have to worry anymore”Ivy smiled.
“Good,I don’t have to worry about sharing you with him”He said.
Kiara looked at Erik who stood with hurt in his eyes.
Erik bit his lip, trying to hold back his tears. The words Ivy said to him really hurt him, especially the statement she made before saying the word ‘bye’.
He turned to his driver.
“Keys”He said and his driver came out of the car immediately, handing the car keys to him.
Erik got into his car and drove off.
Kiara sighed worriedly, seeing how he left.
The driver looked at her.
“I’ll get us a taxi”He said.
