Chapter 18
“Are you sure you really want to eat here?”Kiara asked as she and Erik stood in front of the stall, waiting for the man to finish making his food.
He glanced at her but didn’t give her a response.
“Okay…”She muttered,folding her arms. “There are other kinds of food you can get if…”
“I’m okay with the kebabs”He said plainly. “Pay up”He said after the man was done
Kiara paid the man.
“You can sit over there while I get my own food” She said, pointing to a table.
Erik picked his food and walked to the table Kiara pointed to.
He sat.
Kiara joined him a few moments later after getting her food.
“Corn dogs,again?”Erik said,staring at the contents of her food plate.
“The corn dogs here are really good. They’re my favorite”She said.
Erik looked down at the kebab in front of him before taking down the meats on the sticks , making them drop on the plate.
Kiara watched him with a shocked and puzzled look on her face,her lips parting slightly.
“What are you doing?”She asked.
He faced her.
“Trying to eat”He said.
She snickered “You’re supposed to eat the meats from the stick” She said.
“Not my style”He said.
“That’s the proper way to enjoy it”She said and shook her head as she watched him detach the meats from the sticks.
Erik looked up from his food and watched as Kiara munched on her food, savoring it.
“Is it that good?”He asked
“The corn dogs?”She asked.
“Nevermind”He said and then exchanged their foods.
He took a bite from it.
“Not bad”He muttered.
“Can I have my food back?”She asked
“No, I’m taking the corn dogs.You can have my food”
“No,I…”
“I’m your guest, I’m supposed to feel comfortable” He said.
Kiara sighed.
“So,the reason you come here often,is it because of the corn dogs or the great view”He asked
“Both” She nodded.
A ferris wheel could be seen from where they were seated despite the huge distance between where they were and where the ferris wheel was located
Kiara smiled as she watched it rotate,the bright and colorful lights on it gleaming under the moon light.
Erik gazed at her pretty face,a smile slowly crossing his lips as he did. He found it hard to take his eyes off her.
Kiara turned to look at him.
“You should come here with Miss lvy some time. I’m sure she’ll love it”Kiara said.
Erik stared at her with a blank expression on his face before looking away,his eyes caught a couple sitting together, holding hands and smiling.
He swallowed,his countenance changing as he thought of Ivy.
He hasn’t gotten a call from her for days now despite the fact that she was aware he fell sick almost two days ago.
“Should I not have said that?”Kiara muttered in her head seeing the look on Erik’s face after the statement she made but she also noticed his eyes fixed on something so she turned to look in the direction where his eyes were facing and saw what he was looking at.
“I lost my appetite”He said, pushing the food away.
He stood”I’m leaving”He said and without waiting for her response,he left.
Kiara sighed, feeling bad as she remembered the look he left with. She felt she was the cause his countenance change

Ken and Emily sat with cups of coffee in their hands, drinking.
Ken placed his cup on the table after taking a sip, Emily did the same and raised her head to look at Ken who had his eyes on her already.
“It’s been a while since we’ve done this. Going out together”She said “it feels nice”She smiled.
He smiled also.
“It does”He nodded and stared at her for a while before speaking again “Can I …Ask you a question?”He asked and she nodded. “You think I was the one who started avoiding you,why?” He asked in a calm voice
She bit her lip and adjusted her glasses.
“Well,you stopped talking to me after we graduated college and acted like you didn’t know me when we began working at Tech Builders”
“You were the one who stopped talking to me after I confessed my feelings to you that night,I thought it was your way of telling me that you didn’t want us to be friends anymore”
“I can’t believe you took it the wrong way. I was trying to give you space and time of get over…”She cleared her throat”You know what I mean”
“I…Had no idea”He muttered.
She chuckled.
“I’m sorry I made you think that way”She said sincerely.
“So… Would it be okay to go back to being friends?”He asked.
“Friends?”She muttered.
“If you’re worried that things might get awkward because I once confessed my feelings to you,you shouldn’t”He said “That was a long time ago. Those feelings aren’t there anymore”He said.
That statement pierced Emily’s heart like an arrow. She felt crestfallen but she didn’t let her face show it.
“That’s um…”She nodded, forcing a smile on her face “Great. Sure, friends”She said
Ken smiled but deep down as much as he tried not to feel that way,he still felt hurt that Emily didn’t feel the same way about him.
The truth was… He was still in love with her but he didn’t want that to be the reason they wouldn’t be able to reunite as friends again.
Kiara walked past Natasha in the living room after greeting her and went inside her room.
She met Daphne seated on her bed.
“Finally”Daphne groaned.
“What?”Kiara asked, going to drop her bag.
“Do you always come home this late?”Daphne asked
“It…Depends”Kiara said, joining Daphne on the bed.
“So…”Daphne turned to face Kiara with a smile “Since I wasn’t able to get the novels last time…”
“I knew you had a reason for coming to my place this late”Kiara said
Daphne frowned”Novels are not the only reason I come to your place”She said “I also come whenever I feel the need to disturb or annoy you”She smiled.
Kiara giggled.
“So,the novels?”
“You know where they are”
“I know”Daphne said,standing up”I just like to get your permission since they’re not yours. They belong to your dad”She went to open Kiara’s closet.
“You still have this jotter with you?”Daphne said a minute later, bringing out a pink jotter from Kiara’s closet.
Kiara stood and moved closer to Daphne.
She took the jotter from her and smiled as she flipped the pages which were filled with writings and drawings
“Wait, that’s right”Daphne suddenly said and Kiara faced her “You now work in a tech producing company,you should show that stuff to one of the tech experts or scientists there,maybe they can help you create that device”Daphne said, referring to the contents of Kiara’s jotter.
The writings and drawings on the jotter were Kiara’s idea of a device that could be created to help people in recalling memories in a way that would make it feel like they were reliving those memories.
“I don’t think it’s possible to create such device” Kiara muttered.
“Because Lex told you told you so?”Daphne asked.
Lex was the next person after Daphne that Kiara told of her idea about the device since he was her boyfriend at the time and also a scientist but he had told her plainly that it was impossible to create such device.
Kiara sighed.
“Show it to others. I’m sure you’ll find someone who is interested in helping you”
“You think so?”
Daphne nodded.
Kiara placed a small gift box on Erik’s desk after reading out his schedule to him.
“Thank you sir”She said
He looked at her
“So, I’ve done all three. I’ve expressed my gratitude for your help yesterday” She said again
“I don’t remember mine being this small”He said, picking the box.
“I… Didn’t really know what to get so…”She folded her lips.
“Well, it’s still something”He muttered
She smiled.
He opened the box and saw a tie in it.
“By the way, I’m really sorry if I was responsible for putting you in that mood yesterday”She apologized.
He looked up at her.
“You want to make up for it?”He asked.
“I…Sure,if there’s a way I can make up for…”
“There is”He said
“What?”
“You’ll find out later. You can get back to your desk”
“Yes sir”She said and left his office.
Erik smiled as he stared at the tie Kiara gifted him.
It was a small present but the smile and sincerity at she used in giving him the present made it feel like the biggest present he’s ever received.
He stood when he suddenly remembered something he ought to have done the previous day.
He left his office and went to the lab.
He scanned the room for the guy he saw with Kiara at the lobby the previous day.
Employees who saw him greeted but he was more concerned about finding who he was looking for.
He released a scoff when he saw him and immediately went to meet him.
Lex stood up in surprise when he saw Erik in front of him.
