Chapter 8
“No sir”Kiara shook her head and collected the handkerchief “Thank you sir”She said
“We’ll leave once you’re done”Erik said, looking around the restaurant once more “This might seem less of a punishment to you but if you ever make the same mistake again…”
“I won’t. And, I’m sorry I did. I had no idea”She said
He stared at her.
He could tell she was being sincere.
She stood after a few minutes and picked the tray.
She went to give it to the waiter and returned within a few seconds
“We can leave now”She said
Erik stood.
“Are we heading back to the company?”Kiara asked as they walked out.
“No”He said.
His driver opened the backseat door when they got out.
“Get a taxi”He said before entering his car.
His driver ignited the car and drove off.
Kiara brought out her phone to check what the time was – A few minutes past nine pm.
She sighed.
While still on his way home,Erik got a call from Ivy.
He picked up the call
“Hey babe”Ivy said
“Hey”Erik smiled
“Um…I just wanted to apologize for what happened yesterday. I didn’t mean to do that”She said
“It’s fine”
“So…If you won’t be too busy tomorrow, I’d like to come over to your office,make up for what I did yesterday” She said
“Sure”He said.
“Same time,love you”She said and hung up.
Erik smiled as he dropped his phone on the car seat.
Kiara closed the door behind her after she got in.
She dropped her bag and went to the kitchen.
She met Natasha cooking.
“You’re back”Natasha smiled, turning to face her
“Yeah”Kiara nodded
“Work wasn’t too hectic today,was it?”She asked, faking concern
“No”Kiara smiled.
“Dinner would have been ready a while ago if I had not returned late from the supermarket. Things have been so hectic at the supermarket within these last few days. Not having you at the supermarket…”She exhaled and shook her head
Kiara chuckled as she joined Natasha in cooking.
“We’ve never done this before”Kiara said
“What?”She asked
“Cooking together”Kiara said “It feels really nice” She smiled
Natasha faked a smile.
Erik walked in with Kiara following behind
He sat on his chair and picked a document from his table, going through it.
“My schedule”He said without sparing a glance at Kiara.
“Thank you for yesterday’s dinner sir”Kiara smiled
‘Though you initially took me there so you could watch me suffer’ She completed the rest of the sentence in her head.
“I don’t need your thank you”He said nonchalantly “And, I’m sure you don’t really mean and even if do,I don’t care”He said,not looking at her
Her smile disappeared.
Why smile in front of him anyways?He was only going to say things that would ruin her mood and make her smile seem irrelevant even if some of it were fake.
And,it wasn’t her fault some of her smiles were fake,he didn’t deserve her sincere smile.
“My schedule”He said again.
“You have a meeting by eleven am and it’s going to end by one pm…”
“Cancel the meeting”
“Sir?”
“I don’t like repeating myself”
“I’ll cancel it sir”
“What else do I have on my schedule?”

Kiara went back to her desk after she was done reading Erik’s schedule to him
Not long after she sat,she got a text from Daphne.
*Are you at work?*Daphne’s text read
*Of course* She texted back
*We barely have time to see each other again since you started working there*Daphne replied.
*I know, right?*
*You didn’t forget our plan to go shopping, right?*
*Nope*
*Shopping and a little bit of fun*
*A little bit?*
*Alright,you got me, a lot of fun*
Kiara chuckled
Ken raised his head to look at Kiara
“Is that your boyfriend or what?”He teased.
“My best friend”Kiara said and kept her phone.
“Cool”He nodded “You’re closer to her than you are with Carly?”He asked
Kiara nodded, knowing already that Carly was Erik’s last personal assistant
“Carly is just…a good friend of mine”
“Oh”
“How did you know my best friend was a girl?”She asked
“Lucky guess and girls are mostly best friends with other girls so…”
“Not all girls”
“Do you have a male best friend?”
“No but…”
“I’m right,just admit it ”
Kiara chuckled
“Besides,girls having male best friends doesn’t usually end well”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well, one of them ends up falling for the other and it’s the guy in most cases. Also, it’s mostly a one sided love”
“You sound like you have some experience”She folded her arms and stared at him
“No”
“Really?”She arched her brow
Ken sighed
“Fine”He muttered”I had a female best friend when I was in my last year of college”
“You developed feelings for her?”
He nodded
“But she didn’t feel the same way,it ruined our friendship”
“Ruined? You stopped being friends?”
“Yeah,”He faked a smile
“Do you still see her?”
“Yeah,we are practically strangers to each other now”
“Must be hard”
He nodded “She works here”
“Really?”Her eyes widened “What part of the company does she work in? Do you still have feelings for her?”She couldn’t stop herself from asking him those questions
“Please, let’s stop talking about it”
“I’m sorry”
“It’s fine. Just… don’t make the mistake of falling for someone who doesn’t feel the same way about you”
She stared at him
“I don’t think falling in love with someone is something that can be helped” She muttered
“I’m just saying…it really hurts”He said

Erik released a sigh and turned off his laptop
Ivy had still not arrived yet.
He took his phone and dialed her phone number
She picked after a few seconds.
“Hi”He said “Are you on your way yet?”He asked
“On my way?”She asked and then gasped “Oh my,I totally forgot I was supposed to come over to your office today”
“Why did you make the phone call if you weren’t going to come?”He sighed
“I was going to come but then I was so busy and I lost track of time and…”
“You forgot”He said
“I’m sorry”She apologized
“I cancelled a meeting for you”He said, feeling hurt and frustrated.
“I’m really sorry”
“It’s okay”He said,sounding as understanding as possible before ending the call.
He sighed and rested his head on his chair.
For how long was this going to continue?
He was feeling really hurt and depressed right now.
He stood and picked a document from his desk before leaving his office.
He walked to Kiara and dropped the document on her table.
Kiara looked up at him
He had his usual cold expression on but his eyes looked sad.
“Get this document to the marketing team leader and make sure he signs it. Bring it home to me once you’re done preparing my schedule for tomorrow”He said “I’m going home”He said, facing Ken this time.
Kiara blinked as she watched him leave
“Home?”She muttered
“Yeah, that’s some of the things you’ll do as his personal assistant. Delivering things like this to him at his house especially on days like this”
“But,I don’t know where he lives”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll help you with his house address and how to get there”
“Thanks” She said
He smiled
“By the way,did you see the look in his eyes earlier?”She asked
“Yeah”Ken nodded “And the only time he has that look in his eyes is when something goes wrong between him and Miss lvy. That’s probably why he left early. It’s not a new thing”
“Are things not going well between him and Miss lvy?”She asked
Ken looked at her and sighed
“Love is complicated”He said
Kiara felt concerned as she remembered the look in his eyes earlier.
Hold on,why should she be concerned about him? He’s been unkind to her since the day she began working for him.
She reminded herself and pushed the thought out of her mind.
He didn’t deserve her concern.
A ‘wow’ escaped Kiara’s mouth as she stepped into the breathtaking sitting room.
The maid who led her in left and went to get Nathan.
Nathan came into the sitting room almost immediately and met Kiara looking round the room.
He walked to her
“Good evening Miss”He greeted
“Kiara”She told him her name and also greeted him afterwards
“I’m Nathan”He introduced “Mr Erik told me you’d be coming. I’ll go inform him you’re here”
“Thank you sir”She smiled.
“You can have a seat”He said before leaving
Kiara nodded and was about to walk to a couch when she sighted a silver cage with a rabbit in it
She smiled and walked to the cage.
She unlocked it and brought it out.
“So cute”She smiled,making cute faces at it as she caressed its fluffy fur.
“What do you think you’re doing?”She heard and looked up to see Erik walking to her.
He was putting on a black shirt and a pair of white trousers.
Strands of hair formed bangs, covering his right eye, making him look more handsome
She stared at him till he got to her.
Nathan was behind him
“I asked you a question?” He said
She cleared her throat “Um…I was playing with the bunny, he’s yours right?”She asked
“Yes…”He stared at her
“He’s adorable”She smiled and pouted at the rabbit.
He walked closer to her
“You don’t think it’s childish or weird that I have a rabbit as a pet?”He asked
He clearly rembered the first time Ivy visited him and saw his rabbit.
‘Don’t you think it’s childish you have a rabbit as a pet? Get a dog if you really want a pet. You don’t want people thinking you’re weird,do you?’ Those were the words she said that day
“No”Kiara shook her head
“You don’t have to lie because I’m your boss” He frowned
“I clearly remember you telling me I dress like a highschool student the first day I came to your office so,telling you that having a rabbit as a pet is a childish thing to do shouldn’t be a problem for me and I should be happy while telling you but…I don’t think it’s childish having a rabbit as a pet”She said “Everyone has their own choice of animal which they’d like to keep as a pet and it doesn’t matter which as long as it means having a connection and showing love and care to them”She said
Nathan smiled at Kiara
Erik stared at Kiara and a smile slowly appeared on his face as he did.
