Chapter Twenty
“Alfred tell him to stop! You can’t do this” Fannie said for the umpteenth time and when there was still no answer from Alfred who had long ignore her. She decided to cajole the driver.
“Do you know that what you are doing is kidnapping? Once I get away. I will make sure to put you two in jail. So if you don’t want to live the rest of your life in prison. You will stop the car”She said and the look he gave her through the glass told her that he was scared. Seeing this as an opportunity, she began pressing him.
“Stop the car! Just stop the car!” She yelled at him.
“Do not stop the car”Alfred spoke up and the driver kept driving, following Alfred order.
“I can’t take this Alfred! Stop this car and let me out of…..”She stopped when he suddenly told the driver to pull over.
He got out of the car and walked through to the other side to pull her out of the car.
“You are hurting me Alfred!” She said as he held her hand tight even as he pulled her a distance away from the car.
“What’s your problem?”She yelled when he finally let go.
“My problem? I should be asking you that. Just what sort of sick game are you playing?”He yelled at her.
“We both agreed to put an end to Chris proposal but then you changed your words and decide to be with him. Just what happened last night? What did he tell you?” Alfred asked her.
“He didn’t say anything to me. I realised that Chris love me and I…..”
“Did he thr_@ten you with my life?”He asked Suddenly and she stopped what she was saying.
How did he know that that was Chris thr_@t and why she chose to marry him.
“Answer me Fannie! Did he tell you that he will ki|| me if you don’t marry him?”Alfred asked.
“What you are saying is absurd and….”
“Your defending him only confirms it “Alfred said as he guessed at the truth.
She didn’t want him to know. She didn’t want him to find out and be in more danger. Chris had told her that if anyone knew about their deal. Alfred will pay and that is why she has been rude to Dora. Why she decided to lie to Alfred.
“Alfred I…..”
“For Christ sake! Just stop with the lies Fannie. I would rather be ki||ed than to watch you marry that bastard”Alfred said.
“Don’t say that!”She said trying to get rid of the word die from his mouth.
“If am willing to marry Chris just to keep you safe. Do you think I will let you die?” She asked and instead of answering. He pulled her into a hug.
“Do you know how worried have been the whole night just wondering how you are?”He asked with so much intensity.
“Am sorry Alfred. Chris thr_@ts made me stay with him. He took my phone and other source of communication away from me”Fannie replied.
“What did the bastard tell you?” Alfred asked .
“That he wants me as his wife and that he wouldn’t be made a laughing stock at the engagement party today. He said he never loved me and that I just fitted the role of being called his wife and that if I don’t do as he says. He will ki|| you”Fannie said sadly.
“I was so scared Alfred. He had the phone in his hand and was talking to someone, giving them the order to cause you harm. I had no choice but to accept” she added and Alfred remembered that he was being followed last night.
When he tried to see who it was. They had stopped following him and he had immediately called for his own guards who arrived this morning.
He wasn’t going to tell Fannie that and get her more worried.
“You should have some faith in me. Do you think I will let him win?”Alfred asked.
“I was just so scared for you. If anything bad happens to you because of me then I will …..” She stopped when he kissed her on the lips. Shutting her up.
“Let’s not think about Chris or anyone else. Let’s just think about us from now on”Alfred said and she nodded.
“But what about the party? What do you think is happening?” Fannie asked as they both walked back to the car.
“Chris is being made a laughing stock”Alfred replied happily.
“Don’t you think that we went too far by doing this?”Fannie asked still a bit unsure.
“We didn’t and besides have told you that you should stop thinking about anyone else but us. Let’s make the best of the situation. What do you think about visiting a beach house with me?” Alfred asked.
“I certainly love that”Fannie replied happily as they got back into the car while the driver drove off.
They were cuddled up in each other arms when Dora called Alfred.
“Pick it. She must be worried”Fannie said to Alfred who did as she said.
“Where are you?”Dora asked and Fannie quickly explained the whole thing to her.
“I should have known that all this was Chris doing”Dora said angrily.
” Am sorry for the way I behaved back then. You are more than that to me Dora. Always remember that” Fannie said.
“I know and I hope that that kidnapper of yours will take better care of you”Dora said jokingly.
“Don’t worry. He will surely take good care of….”
“So you’ve decide to run away with Alfred right!”Chris spoke into the phone interrupting Fannie.
“Yes. Have decide to go with Alfred and that’s only because I love him. Something that will never happen if I were to stay with you”She said alerting Alfred who had thought that she was still speaking to Dora.
He didn’t let her say another word because he took the phone from her.
“Now listen you piece of $h|t. Stay away from Fannie. She is mine and won’t ever belong to you. thr_@tening to ki|| me won’t get you to win her that easily”Alfred said into the receiver and he stopped for a while to listen to Chris when his expression changed.
“Sir have got to buy fuel for the…..”
“Don’t you dare stop the car! Keep on driving”Alfred yelled out at the driver who wanted to buy fuel.
“What’s going on?”Fannie asked as soon as Alfred end the call.
“Chris has cut the car brake” Alfred said suddenly and the driver who had been sitting nonchalantly suddenly got worried.
“This road leads to the end of a cliff sir. If we don’t stop the car then we all die”The driver said.
“Just keep on driving”Alfred said while he stared at Fannie.
“What are we going to do?” Fannie asked more scared than ever.
“We will just have to jump out of it” He said.
“That will be more risky”Fannie said
“It’s either that or we die”He said as he took hold of her hand.
“Just trust me my love”He said and she nodded. He opened the car door and motioned for her to jump out of it which she did landing on the floor and feeling so much pain.
Through the pain. She looked at the car hoping to see Alfred jump out but that didn’t happen. The car kept going until it was out of sight and then a loud sound was followed and she knew that the car had reached the end of the cliff with Alfred and the driver still stuck in it.
Due to the pain she felt of losing Alfred, she found herself slip into oblivion.

Fannie opened her eyes to see someone sitting beside her
“You are awake! Are you okay ?”The word was asked and before she could reply. She slip into oblivion again.
She opened her eyes again to find herself in an unfamiliar room and the voice which she heard earlier said again..
“She’s up! Call the doctor”
Fannie turned only to see Dora sitting by her side with tears in her eyes.
“Are you okay Fannie? Can you hear me? Do you feel hurt? “Dora bombarded her with all those questions and she didn’t get to reply because the doctor showed up.
A while later the doctor left leaving her and Dora alone.
“I thought you would never wake up”Dora said as the tears fall gently.
“Am a strong girl. You said so to me once”Fannie replied gently as she tried to move her legs only for it not to move.
“What’s wrong with my legs?”Fannie asked.
“You’ve been in a coma for a long time now and so your legs are just temporarily weak. You will be fine soon” Dora said.
“Coma? But I thought that have only been unconscious for a few days”Fannie said.
“Of course not. You’ve been in a coma for Eight months now”Dora said and that was when she noticed Dora bulging stomach.
“You are pregnant Dora”She said.
“I am. I had hoped that you will wake up before it’s born and am glad you did “Dora replied.
If she had been In a coma for three months then how about Alfred.
“What about Alfred? He was involved in that accident with me. What happened to him?”Fannie asked.
“It’s just that Alfred………..”
